Though I'm not the biggest fan of the H22A,
If you're never going to touch the engine internals & you use good engine mount kit so there are no clearance issues.
You will make more power & be potentially faster using the H22A.
That is stock B18C-R + I/H/E & ECU vs stock H22A + I/H/E & ECU.
The issue with the H22A is gear ratio's.
To to beat a B18C-R engine with same mods in the same chassis,
Unless you can find an Accord Euro R gearbox, you're best off with a H22A & B-series box conversion.
We have final drives for the H22A, but it's not as good as having a close ratio box.
It's the gearbox & availability of parts that lends favour to the B18 when it comes to ease of performance gain.
That said, if you go H22A + B-series box, this will give you capacity & good ratio choice etc.
If not, use the B18.
& if you're going to crack the engine open.
My choice would definatly swing to the B18...
Purely for the high level of quality aftermarket parts support.
This is something the H22A lacks...
Hope thats helps

With a 4.7 final drive the H22A gearbox ratios really aren't a problem. And there is a large amountof aftermarket parts for the H22A. There may not be as many as a B series but there is definitely a decent choice for most things.

You do pay more for parts for the H22 thana B series.

Questions you need to answer:

how much money are you willing to spend?
are you planing to do the work yourself or a workshop?
do you plan to keep AC and PS?
do you ever plan on selling the car?
do you plan on ever returning it back to stock?
are you planing to leave it stock or mod it more?
are you staying NA or maybe going turbo one day?

Only after you know them answers can anyone be able to recommend something useful.

H22 imo would be the best engine hands down if the weight was lower. H22 with a 97+ box has a rather long 2nd gear but with a light chassis and the torque from the H you shouldnt be worried, the best combination for a box in an H series is the 4.7 Mfactory final drive (Toda can sort you out there) and a new 5th gear if you will still use the car on freeways etc. a B series conversion are fairly expensive and in my opinion not needed as I personaly enjoy the gearing of the prelude just would prefer it with a dif final drive

its a personal choice man.they are both good engine.h22 better for drag (with the gearbox issue fixed up.b18 better for track due to the responsiveness and engine characteristics
