Okay.. i did this with a 1998 Honda Odyssey.. Installing a 2001 Honda Civic Cd Player. As most of you know, Honda changed to the blue plug after around 1998~1999. Because of this.. i had to source the wire harness for the blue plug. LUckly, honbits at smithville(NSW) had it and i bought it.

Firstly.. you have to take off all the plastics.. ie.. under the steering wheel.. under the radio, unbolt the glovebox etc..

From there.. there are 4 bolts holding the deck in place.. simply remove those bolts and take the whole unit out..

Thats the easypart.. The hard part is wiring.. i suggest going to a few sites..

www.installdr.com OR.. just search on this site.. I found the blue plug stuff on this site.. while the old plug on the installdr site

How i wired was with the original harness.. i stripped the middle.. but didnt cut the wire. then.. the new wire harness.. i wrapped it aroudn the gap..(refer to pics). Then i taped it all up with electric tape. This way.. your original plug stays in place.. so when it comes to demod, you can cut off the new harness without having to rewire the old one back in

And the result?

Most hondas around the 1998 mark are similar in terms of installation. I found this is the best way as you dont need to buy the adapter harnesses.. and your stock plug stays the same.. Enjoy!!

THis is just a general installation.. You can use any cd deck.. i just chose an 2001 head since i wanted to keep the look of the odyssey as "stock" as possible

I guess you could buy the harness.. but if your too cheap and asian like me.. =P.. yeh. I COULDNT buy harness's anyways since i have to conver t the OLD PLUG to the NEW honda plug.. and thats really rare!

I did the same proceedure with my old corolla when i installed a sony deck.. and my friend (CB7_OWNER) did the same with his accord with another sony deck

spose it is fast....

but, the QL lacks severely, could take an extra 4 mins and solder them
reducing the risk of the twisty bound wires coming loose and shorting on
sumthing

true.. you could also solder then.. but i think i used like a whole roll of electric tape.. so i doubt it'll short. Learnt this technique from a mechanic.. and i did it to the odyssey and took photos hoping i could get a quality post thingy.. need to sell something =P

Well.. this technique is good if your not a crazy sound freak.. I'm planning to install a subs.. 2 amps and change the front 2 speakers on my current car.. and i'll be taking it down to FHRX to get it done.. Want my first new car done perfectly =)

Oh.. i wont be doing it with the odyssey... Doing it with my mazda 3 =P... You can buy an adapter which allows you to use the stock headunit and add amps etc. I quite like the Mazda System =)

or you can spend a bit more and get EVERYTHING down to the last bolt to put a 2DIN unit in there - bose stereo or not AND keep the display/steering wheel working interested - ask.

also there is a plug that is on most of the local cars that will fix your gender problem. full roll of tape of not - it does come off over time.

yeh.. i know people who have done it.. might think about it once the other stuff is put in.. not sure if its really worth it

the mechanic you learnt it off is an idiot, and you dont need to be a "crazy sound freak" to enjoy having peace of mind knowing your stereo isnt gonna screw up because of a half assed install.... every one who reads this, add another 20 second step in there and solder the wires

make sure your standards are high, cause a $1.2k install aint gunna be wound wires and taped up

i work in a high end car audio shop in perth, we average 8-10k installs, the gear in my car alone is worth more than that, but thats not the point :P there is no excuse for twisting and taping, even this crappiest of cars we get in for a new deck gets everything soldered and insulated... stuff like this really annoys me haha

after reading all your comments.. i just soldered + insulated every wire using those rubber things from jaycar... i'll rewrite the DIY later
