Hey I'm about to swap my rocker cover for a different one. What should I look out for and should I just get someone to do it 4 me?

easy to do:thumbsup:
just get some glad wrap over the internals when its off to keep dirt out,
and use gasket sealer etc "$5" from supercheap and run it around the edge when you put the new one on.

super easy just don't freak out when you look in:p

also make sure you CLEAN the edges on the engine and cover b4 you apply the sealant and check if theres any damage to the gasket.

u dont really have to put gasket sealer on the whole lot, just around the cut outs for the cam shafts. i guess it wouldnt hurt but its just a little neater.

make sure u use wax & grease remover and not thinners as it leaves a bit of a film on the surfaces that u cant see and will stop the gasket from sealing properly.

if u know how to change ur engine oil, drain the sump and leave for a while then take the cover off. u will find that this is cleaner as there will not be any oil in the head.

no need to cover your cams etc with glad wrap like someone said, unless your doing it in a duststorm.....

its easy, undo all the 10mm bolts, take off, check gasket for chunks taken out etc and make sure it still feels like rubber, not hard and brittle.the gasket will seal fine without sealant if its still an ok gasket, but for security you can put some silicone sealant on the half moon bit and around the whole thing if you really want.make sure you use an 02 sensor safe sealant,it will say it on the pack.

the just wipe top of head down with a rag,put new cover on,tighten 10mm bolts starting from the inside working outwards in a criss cross pattern and be sure not too overtighten or you will snap the bolts, you will feel when you have tightened it enough, dont keep going, they will snap

^^^ i can vouch for that, snapped 2 bolts when i put my cover back on after painting it red. i think i've spilled about 5 litres or so of oil since then... finally getting it fixed next week :)

guys , you only need to put new sealant above the camshaft guide on the rocker cover. Just wipe down the old gasket and reuse it yo

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN ANY of the nuts on the cam cover ~ just finger tighten + a tiny bit is fine. Just enough to spread the gasket to seal the upper head
