Review:What i found difference straight away is the handling capability when taking roundabout, it feels stuck on the road and also the ride stiffnes...its really firm but thats how i like it.and the ride height. well at first my thoughts were "they rip me off, its whats the difference???" but after a while seeing it and comparing to my brothers car which has the same set up as me as in the wheels (215/45/17) den i can tell the diff. the ride height on the pic is after 5 days of install and its how i like it...Perfect...
im using Kings...

The springs take a while to settle in.
once weight is placed on the springs over a certain time period the springs will settle in and be at the lowered height.
such as the front will drop quicker then the back due to the engine weighing it down.
Also the ride tends to get worse the lower the car gets.
Personally i found the handling too be better the lower the car get and could take corners alot tighter but there wasnt to much difference from the stock.
this is just my experience from putting king springs on my FD2.

it's 17" from Euro Lux, drop 1.4" front and rear

the offset from euro is 35, we should get 45 for our civic.

I did use spacer before, however it causes wheels vibration then decide to take it off.

So hows your springs now ej20i? has the springs adjusted and all? There is no place i can find that will drop anymore then 1.5 in melbourne other than using king springs ... so i might have to go kings afterall.

okae...it relly depends on how u drive...since, for the las few weeks ive been doing some mountain driving..i have to say...im disapointed..the spring became realy soft after 2 laps...and it started to sink the car in the driver side causing scratches on the front spoiler...look into importing mate...i think its a much better investments..like bilstein or tein...look into japanparts.com

super noob at this topic. This is my first time upgrading my wheels therefore also first time at lowering.

Currently on 16" and upgrading to 18". Looking at Tein S.Tech or H.Tech to lower the ride. What im after is decent comfortability and not scraping my fender. Am i looking at the right thing?

In this thread, most are on King Springs. Are they the same as the Tein S/H.Tech? Looking to spend around $500 max to lower my car with some comfort.

actually ive consulted a professional sports racing guy which only worked on racing car suspension and said that its most of the time better to chop your original springs cause of the compression rate of the spring will still stay the same which is better for the car and the ride comfort would be the same as you got it... yes the shock is lower and doesnt have far to travel cause your car is lower but yer youd get the same thing with a change of springs

i love the coils... pedders are nice and the make of the coil is great, with damper adjustable, height adjustable and it just looks really well made. I got it all done for $2000.

chopping springs is retarded and who every said chopping springs is good, has no idea what he is talking about,

if you chop a spring you completely f*ck up hookes law, which is what models characteristics of springs.

F= -kx where:

f = force exerted
k = spting constant
x = displacement of spring

if you chop the spring, your x value changes dramatically and for what your car is designed for (ie stock spring length) everything is put out of wack

also if you chop a spring, you are exposing the metal surface (with no forum of corrosion resistance) and can later on you can have rusty springs which i assume you can imagine will lose all structural integrity and be more likely to f*ck up

if you chop springs and use your stock shocks then you now have shocks which will not work with the chopped springs due to changes in spring length vs shock stroke etc, so that wont be very good either

just spend the extra money and buy proper springs rather than hack up your oem springs because:

1: you can reuse oem springs later to return car to stock height if selling
2: if you chop springs, you are the same as every single vl sump drifter out there
3: spring wont even sit in spring perch evenly. if you chop a spring then you are now resting the spring on a point rather than the sides and could do damage to the spring perch

chopping springs is retarded and who every said chopping springs is good, has no idea what he is talking about,

if you chop a spring you completely f*ck up hookes law, which is what models characteristics of springs.

F= -kx where:

f = force exerted
k = spting constant
x = displacement of spring

if you chop the spring, your x value changes dramatically and for what your car is designed for (ie stock spring length) everything is put out of wack

also if you chop a spring, you are exposing the metal surface (with no forum of corrosion resistance) and can later on you can have rusty springs which i assume you can imagine will lose all structural integrity and be more likely to f*ck up

if you chop springs and use your stock shocks then you now have shocks which will not work with the chopped springs due to changes in spring length vs shock stroke etc, so that wont be very good either

just spend the extra money and buy proper springs rather than hack up your oem springs because:

1: you can reuse oem springs later to return car to stock height if selling
2: if you chop springs, you are the same as every single vl sump drifter out there
3: spring wont even sit in spring perch evenly. if you chop a spring then you are now resting the spring on a point rather than the sides and could do damage to the spring perch

thanks for the info rk. i didn't realise how much damage could be done by doing something so simple, and i didn't know much - and still don't know much - about suspension. thanks again, ill look into getting a decent set of coilovers. i've seen really cheap ones on ebay for say ~$50, but i'm just going to assume those would snap if too much pressure was placed on them hence the super cheap price, in comparison to some other brands which range from $800-1400 in price. ill head down to my local pedders outlet and see what those folks got to say. they'd probably say the same thing you just posted. thanks again!

i have to agree with you that ill definitely buy new springs for my car, im still sus about the chopping of springs as well as i can put them back when i sell the car.

but i have to disagree with what rk says "if you chop the spring, your x value changes dramatically and for what your car is designed for (ie stock spring length) everything is put out of wack" the only thing that changes is the length of the coil... not the compression rate of the actual spring. Most springs for lowering basically do the same thing as chopping your springs, just that you can buy a variaty of springs which can vary your compression rate.

ive talked to a few suspension experts about this and they all agree on this.

but again rk i would rather buy clean new springs :)

good chatting :thumbsup::thumbsup:

05-11-2008, 02:30 PM
that isnt entirely true, compression rate is also dependant on the number of active coils in a spring and if you chop a spring you are effectively removing n number of coils and causing a change :P

btw what springs are you looking at?

no more springs bro... coils...

well ive had pedder springs to start off with on my first car... then went to kings then went to kmac (which is crap) then went to einbach which is awesome i love... then to kings which i do like and is cheap... and now on pedder coils which are awesome and love.

but its cool... :D

:thumbsup:

chopping the spring will reduce the flexibility of spring.
and esp. for Honda civic (tried ED -EG and EK), always cause negative chamber, why ? don't know. and can't be fix.
so assume ES and FD will be the same effect.

negative camber from lowering our cars is normal, as you lower the car, the lower control arms on our fds sit more horizontal and therefore the hub gets angled out a bit.

of course you can fix that with a camber kit :)

2-3" drop, you'll be looking at king springs super low" from 2" onwards drop, low is about 1.5"

I've had my skunk2 springs for about 2 weeks now. Notice more of the drop now then the frist few days after it got installed.

Comparing the both, on my old car I had king springs and I prefer skunk2 over the king springs.

besides can any1 confirm civic FD1,FA1, FA5, FG1 and FG2, coilover can fit our civic sport?

So I just got my car lowered on kings for 250 bux...if any1 wans arnd the same price just pm me.its firmer than stock, but hey that's wad u get for a shorter spring and the handling is the instant notice.but its not so stiff that its unbareble.im satisfied with it...will post some pics once im home and taken some pics.

Hey, was your car lowered with Kings lows or super-lows? cause i was told you couldn't get super-lows for FD.....can anyone confirm this??

FallenAngel

I wouldn't get springs full stop but thats just IMO... Coilovers FTW..

Anyawys i don't see why not to get the super-lows for the FD. I haven't heard anything wrong / bad that happened with them... I'd say to get the lows since super-lows it'll eventually sag and will cause scrubbing...

I was wanting to lower my fd. But I found out on the weekend that when i have 2 ppl in the back it can scrub when taking corners. And thats not even going that fast. I'm at stock height :(

I guess thats what you get for running +35 offset rims without rolling the guards. Who has rolled their guards? Should i be worried about the paint if i wanted to roll the guards? What sort of places can do that? Rough ball park figure?

19-01-2009, 02:49 PM

@ mark,

the fd stock sus is fat and thick in diameter, if u get a coilover setup it wont be as thick so therefore you can slam it and not have to worry about the wheel hitting the shock.

get me?

@ denot,

what sized wheel you got?

im running 19x8 on +42 and i have no problems

either way scrubbing isnt cool. so gl with it all

Yep I understand. But I think my problem isn't the rubber hitting the shocks, but hitting the thin guard. the rims are flush with the guards, and then when the shocks/springs compress enough it can rub (be it cornering with extra weight in the back or when i go over a hump fast enough).

Over humps the front can scrape/rub (has to be pretty bad humps in the road). When cornering with ppl in the back then the rear wheels can scrub.

But interesting to know that the stock suspension is fat. I'm guessing my options are either rolling the guards, or super stiff coilovers lol.

Get 215 tyres... You'd don't want the scrubbing sound if u can avoid it. Its not as "easy going" as it sounds...

with 215/40 18x8 +40 2" drop should be fine although i'd say ur rears when having approx 1 or 2 people in the back will scrub when u go over speed bumps or just uneven roads.

need some help choosing springs =/... im wondeirng whats the best drop, 2" skunk2s or 1.4" eibach sportlines.. but i'm really torn, i was going the skunk2s at first cos the drop seems nicer and lower, but then i take a look at some sportline dropped fds.. and the drop seems the same? wtf?!

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/9984/dsc01840v.jpg

thats one on sportlines, then i take a look at say.. kevin's fd on skunk2s or ej's fd which is about the same drop, and the gap between wheel arch and tyres seem the same? .. anyone wanna help me out with choosing the set of springs to get lol?

Its hard to say because each car may be the same they all will behave differently. Although just choose the one u like best (brand/cost etc..) and just go for that really..

This place wants $750 to fit skunk2 springs to my car :( ... no way am I paying that for springs.

Now I either will go cheap coilovers or kings :(

09-03-2009, 01:56 PM

markCivicVti
09-03-2009, 02:01 PM
999 quoted me $760 to supply and fit and wheel alignment.

I dunno... sounds too much... I'm pretty sure they quoted me (before their skunk2 container came in feb) 550 incl supply and fit.

But yeah.. now I'm annoyed... might delay the loweing.. or get Kings... eithery way have a vented carbon fibre bonnet coming my way from taiwan :)

black8thgen
09-03-2009, 02:03 PM
NICE. how big are the vents?! are they like rene's ones? nice and small? or a bit larger? and how much u get it for? (pm please =D).

sorry for the bombardment of questions =D.

and uhm yeah 760 sounds a lot... but maybe u could just get the springs off 999, and get it aligned and fitted somewhere else? im sure it cant be that much =/

need some help choosing springs =/... the drop seems the same? wtf?!

the xx" drop is only an approximate...

it could be more then that xx" approximate..
or it could be less than the approximate..

either way.. save your money. springs aint worth it.

has anyone seen this item for sale at 999 automotive?
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109780

they're skunk2 coilover sleeve kits.

are these some sort of cheaper alternative for full coilovers or something? does anybody know much about coilover sleeves? how's the handling and ride comfort from these?

JOhnnyFD

its like the full coilover setup minus the shock dampers.. could use ur oem shocks with these or upgrade em separately

yes they are the cheaper alternative to coilovers.
they allow you to drop your ride according to how low you want it.
ride comfort depends on how low you go.

all in all your going to ruin your stock shocks.

ekdez
22-04-2009, 08:33 AM
jdm yard has them on special for this month.

tein SS is very soft and wont slam your car much. i speak from experiance.

best bang for buck coilover is buddy club n+

other coilovers out there are overpriced.

but then gain .. its up to you. i like a harder ride then others, but that allows me to go low.

Waternmo
22-04-2009, 12:19 PM
thx ekdez, i heard buddyclub n+ is not japan made anymore, adn tein SS is way over priced nowadays... 2.5k for a set... im lookin at dropping the car for 15 - 20mm, and want a balanced comfort and performance. have had JIC track spec in my old car, quite comfortable comparing to teins RA and BC racing spec, but im just over driving a "track car" on road everyday. thats y im lookin at koni, skunk2 and even mugen, they lower the car, and hav comfort + performance gain, most importantly cheaper than most coilovers, if i want harder/stiffer coilovers i can just order a set of BC from china and it'll be as stiff as buddyclub racing spec...

Stig
22-04-2009, 12:27 PM
have you thought of tanabe? 1.5k from a trader on the forum, forgot whom, jdmconcept maybe?

ekdez
22-04-2009, 03:01 PM
yeah, tein SS maybe expensive but its ADR approved..??
whereas the other coilovers arent..
i heard that jic makes coilovers for fd.
tanabe is meant to be soft too because the fd's we own over in jap, is a family car.. lol

all coilovers are gonna be made in different country to the design because they use parts which are always going to be the cheaper alternative... having said that, the warranty is still there to cover failure of a coil set =]

so i dunno.. i ended up getting n+.. just because it gave me that option street/road/track

its k again - trader called pro-racing or something will be getting daiyama coilovers in and they'll cost 1500 delivered anywhere in aus thought i'd give a heads-up :)

anyone using / had experience with daiyama before?

Waternmo
25-04-2009, 10:57 PM
hey K, if u r in Brisbane, go hav a speak to 999 and they can get u K sport for around the same price, they hav similar specs too... if both of them are TW brands, then its more than likely they get their parts from the same factory, like D2, G4 and Racing Logic have their parts made in the same factory but selling them at diff prices...

26-04-2009, 06:41 PM
yeh im from bris and have talked to them, adam gave me a quote a while back on all the different types of coilovers he can get and how much + info like spring rates / how many levels of dampening etc etc
