Hi there does anyone out there have a view about dunlop sp sport 3000a tyres for a Euro on OEM rims? Are they considered a good tyre and if so what are their strong points eg braking, grip, wear or what?
Also is it OK to go to 235 45 17's instead of 225 45 17's on the OEM rims? Will it affect anything else?
Thanks heaps in advance :)

I've heard good things about the Dunlops but apparently due to their soft compound they don't last too long.I wouldn't go 235/45 on the factory rim as i think it's too big,too much bulge on the sidewalls which wouldn't help handling. If you're int.i can put you in contact with someone who can get you some Conti CS2s for $900 for 4.PM me.

Thanks Tony,
I'm getting a tyre check today so I'll have a better idea then as to when I'll actually need them.
I'll post photos of the lower dash metalic satin silver garnish over the weekend. I'll do a before and after.
Cheers

i use the dunlop sp sport....there alright not to bad but not the best, still good though. havent had any problems with them yet...lol. if you take off supper quick and the road is abit uneven then you might lose abit of traction but for normal driving its all good.....

Go with 215/45/17 sized tire. The Jap Euro R uses the 215s instead of the 225

If your gonna track and not using semis than the narrower tire would be better than the wider ones. 235 is too wide, max I would say 225 for the stock rims..

EuroR might have a different calibration to their speedo, making it suitable for 215 (like the TSX). Stock is 225 anyway.

215-225.. Isn't that the width of tire??

The width of the tire doesn't really matter with calibration of speedo/odo..
I would say if you got like 55 or 35 instead of the 45 it would affect calibration..

Sorry, I should have clarified. Stock is 225/45 R17. So using 215/45 R17 would give a different rolling diameter to stock Aus spec.

Hi Aaronng,
Taleb Tires and others Dealers often have deals for 235 45 17 tyres and Mick from Taleb says that 235 is fine on the OEM rim. Others have said stick to 225or else there will be bulge at the walls etc (which makes sense to me) What is your view about the options if any on OEM rims?

The rim and tyre calculator that I use says the minimum for 235/45 R17 is 17x8" rims, while for 225/45 R17, it's 17x7.5" rims. So if it was me, I'd personally go for 225/45 R17 tyres.

235 is for 7.5 or 8" rims..
225 is for 7 or 7.5" rims..
215 is for 6.5 or 7" rims..

Correct me if I'm wrong..

A lot of the holdens have 235/45/17 rims so generally you will find that 235s are cheaper than 225 or 215...

It'll fit but it's not the ideal tyre size to put on the OEM rim.your speedo will be out slightly due to the increase in rolling diameter of the 235 tyre. Not by much.

Is there a way to calculate the speedo error that you would get. Mick from Taleb tires reckons 1 km/hr at 100 ks. If that were right you wouldn't worry about it.
I saw a table that supported what EKCivicR said in his post that there is a "range" that is acceptable for each .5" increase in rim width so that for 7.5" 225 or 235 45 17 is acceptable.
Because 235 is a more common size the price is definitely lower. I had to get 195 45 16 last week for my wife's Citroen C2 and they cost a bomb because they are an "unusual" size.

Going from 225 to 235 is only a 1.6km/h underread on the speedo. The issue now is the stock rim width of 7".

I don't think I like the sound of this but one of our Forum suppliers are doing Nexen N3000s for the Euro in 225 45 17 and say they are a good tyre. Anyone out there had any experience of them?
Cheers

How much are they?I think they'd only be an average tyre.

Not sure of the price. I was asking about some wheels and about those Dunlops and he just said he had done the N3000 Nexens for some other guys and that he thought they were a good tyre. I have kept your message about the Conti's.
I had a tyre check with my service and I have a few months yet before I have to change.
