hey guys my mate has an EM1. he has an INJEN CAI, vision 4-1 headers, hi-flow cat, skunk2 catback exhaust. he was wondering if he can just buy an aftermarket ECU that is pre-tuned to his mods. like plug and play style.
if so, how much are they. where can he purchase it, wat brand and options.
also wat gains will he be looking at when he puts an ECU in.

let me know guys. thankz in advance!

No, I can't think of any brand that comes with a good pre-programmed map for any engine let alone with mods. You'll get a base map to get your ass to a dyno for a tune though.

To be honest, I don't even think those sort of mods warrant an aftermarket ecu.

Better off like doing engine internals then dyno-tune it =]

ok.
i also wanted to ask if you have to reset the computer after putting on mods such as I/H/E ? if so, do i just disconnect the negative battery terminal for like 30 seconds? this is wat i was told to do.

A reset is a good idea following any engine related mod.

I believe there's a guide on how to do it in the "how-to" section.

unplug battery for a few minutes

plug it back in

let the car idle until its warm and then drive off slowly, going through the rev range slowly. This is to let the ECU correct any mixture problems.

too easy!

You guys don't leave a door open or depress the brake pedal to get rid of any residual charge?

thats what the few minutes wait is for.

You don't need to get to that level of engine modification before an aftermarket ECU and tuning becomes beneficial.

You will get gains from a tune even just with I/H/E, but they will be small.

I'd recommend the next mod being a nice set of drop in cams and valvetrain. Then grab a Hondata S300 and get to a tuner. :)

You'll get a gain on any setup even stock with an aftermarket ECU.
Stock ECUs are designed for economy and to pass regulations.
You can squeeze abit more out.

Get a full ECU that way you can get it tuned to whatever you have in future.

Power FC is my pick, plug & play for obd2 ecus

Yeh what I meant was for those mods its minimal isn't it? And tuning is costly w/ Aftermarket ECU isn't it?

You will still get gains, how much is hard to say. Depends on what your chasing
With PFC you get a base map. Either a B18CR or a B16B.

If you only get minor adjustments then it should be fairly cheap tune as its not a full tune.

For your car i'd get the b16b ECU

Correct. There are gains to be made from an aftermarket ECU on any car, even with no other mods as has been pointed out.

There are other options apart from Hondata and PFC. ;)
