the stock one feels pretty short already, shorter than my dc2R. guess you'll always want to improve on what you already have...

Just to confirm with the short shifter, the shifter itself is the straight cut shifter not the design like the stock one with the bend in the metal? FRIKEN HATE IT!

curik
11-04-2008, 09:46 PM
It is a straight shaft with no bend. I like it a lot

Yeah stock seems sporty enough. But the throws still seem long, N -> 1, 1st to 2nd and so on.

If anyone in Syd has one of these installed in their Euro and you wouldnt mind giving me a demo, wouldnt mind trying before I buy. :)

Does short shifter makes acceleration faster? Someone care to explain me please?

enkay
12-04-2008, 08:30 PM
lol it just means the time it takes to shift is shorter hence u are faster cos there is less time between the shifts lol in theory anyways

aaronng
12-04-2008, 10:42 PM
I like it because you can shift 2-3 and 4-5 fast and confidently with less chance of a misshift.

Not much difference compared to buying locally from a trader...

yeh not much cheaper but still it is cheaper, why bother paying extra dollars when you can get same thing for cheaper.

Did you DIY the install or a workshop did it for you?
yeh i did not worth getting workshop for something IMHO simple.

no special tools, just your normal flathead/phillips/ratchet spanner.

took me 2hrs cause i was scared of breaking the console pieces but in the end it was good. Could finish the install in 1-1.5hr. The only pain in the ass was the clip on the Up/Down shaft was bloody tight.

So you mean there is no need to jack up the car or anything? Sounds good...mmmm.

enkay
20-04-2008, 06:48 PM
nope, its realy easy, onli hard part was the U-clip that he was talkin bout realli hard to get off, at 1st i was too scared to force incase i broke stuff, but by the end i was using a hammer LOL (mine was really really stiff lol and didnt have any plyers)

Crapdaz
20-04-2008, 07:36 PM
ROFL,
HAMMER only time i used a hammer was when i had to put the mugen u clip back in cause it'd fit half way then jams up.

But yeh i was scared i'd burr the U clip when prying it out.

So you mean there is no need to jack up the car or anything? Sounds good...mmmm.
Piss easy mod.

BTW only thing is that sometimes i get my finger caught in between the shift knob and handbrake lever when i put into reverse as my shift knob i have is circular in shape.

ENKAY did you end up removing the stock shift knob clip thing?
As i have now after i removed i replaced the assembly.

aaronng
20-04-2008, 07:42 PM
No need to jack the car, everything you need to touch is under the gearknob.

did you guys have any problems with the ashtray light not switching on?

Might be the connection which i need to re-adjust or something as it was working before the install.

I just went back to the thread where we had our Comptech short shift installed.

i am going to purchase one of these. this week or next.

is it simply taking off the old part and putting on the new?

does it come with a knob ?

yeh pretty much, most of the stuff you reuse only thing that would be left over is the stock U clip + stock assembly itself, no shift knob imagine if they did have one would be hella expensive.

hope this helps.

what about gearbox. does short shifter have any negative impacts on the gearbox?

your gearbox assembly is replaced, with the shorter mugen one. Pretty much direct bolt on everything is installed within the cabin.
