Hey Guys,

just wondering,, what you guys get for your accord's? i want to compare to mine, which i think is quite poor...i filled up this morning 36.16 L., odometer showing 320km..

so 36.16/320 = 0.113 (times by 100) gives me 11.3L/100km using 91ULP......-.-

Nature of driving each day: Granny Style
5 Mins from home to Kingsgrove M5 East Entrance.
4 Mins on M5 East (usually coasting @ 65-75km/h)
Princess Highway exit> through newtown (stacks of traffic)> Uni of Syd

And then reversed, from uni to home...

Soo guys, if you could share your fuel consumptions, in a simple format like:

Car:

Petrol used: 91, 95 or 98, or Shell (100)

Nature of driving: Granny (shifts@2500-3000rpm).. Rev head(shifts @ 4k+ or, holds the gear for ages)

Actual Calculated amount of fuel consumed:
OR
Estimated per tank stating weather it is 55L or 60L

And list of MODS, if any:

Thanks Guys

The fuel consumption that your getting is reasonable for city driving. I saw somewhere that city driving fuel consumption for F22B non VTEC engine is 11L/100km. For highway I've manage to get 8L/100km
Here's mine
Car: 93 EXI
Petrol used: unleaded 91
Nature of driving: Granny (gear shift between 2.5k-3k)
Actual Calculated amount of fuel consumed: 12L/100km (400km for 48L)

LOL, fuel consumption of a non vtec affects the question.
If you don't have vtec, whats the point of hooning in an accord?

Car: 95 vti-s, manual

Petrol used: mostly 98. I find using a 91 has no effect on fuel consumption. just not as smooth as 98. I use 98 for the long term benefits of having a cleaner engine.

Nature of driving: Granny (shifts@2500-3000rpm).. Rev head(shifts @ 4k+ or, holds the gear for ages). Both. depends how i feel.

Actual Calculated amount of fuel consumed: 10l/100km avg

i'll go one more, tyre pressure, as i think it has a noticable impact on fuel economy. Front 37, rear 33

Car is a manual 1991 CB7.

Last long trip; Mid North Coast to Byron Bay and back. Driving = legal speed hwy driving (+ 5kmh much of the time), with much cruise control and some A/C use.

Fuel use on that trip (carefully checked brim fill to brim fill) = 6.3L per 100km going North, 6.5L per 100km going back South. Fuel = ordinary unleaded non ethanol.

Engine stock save for a CAI (home made). Tyre pressure front = 38psi, rear = 45psi. Toe alignment = zero front and rear. Gearbox oil = Motul synthetic (may have some slight bearing).

If you do some reaserch about the F22B1 engine its tuned more for flexibility and refinement than outright power. In another words more for fuel economy that power.

This thread should be limit to non VTEC engine for a more accurate fuel comparison between one another since CB7 doesnt have VTEC engine from factory

fuel consuption specs still arent drastically different tho, the attitude of the driver prob has a higher impact (ie. ppl with vtec prob drive more agressively coz they think its better :p)

exactly the point I was trying to make.
Ppl with vtec will normally drive to a degree where they can "feel" vtec.
It sounds stupid but makes sense if u have a vtec.

Mate, obviously the f22b1 was made for fuel economy. I dont need to research, I think its pretty obvious considering its a 100kw vtec engine which is only a sohc.

wasent having a go at you in particular :)

the vtec engine prob be slightly better on the juice if u always drive granny style, you never need to rev it past 4krpm but wheres the fun in that :p

for the point of this discussion i average around 11l/100ks with a worst of 15l/100ks (hence my point about driving style) ;)

i had a really good run recently

-CD5 Accord VTi-S - F22b1 just to be clear...
-Automatic
-32psi all round
-full tank to bottom line without fuel light
-507km

granny driving severly lol i think there was 2, 6500 shifts
and mostly highway suprisingly for me, i was trying for
best consumption at reasonable and practical speeds

i got 507Km out of a tank i could have got more but this was really run down
fuell light hadnt came on but still... the needle in the cords go up and down
alot anyways

just to add a little fuel to the fire

non vtec

550k's off full tank (55l)
91 ron
25 mins at 90kph + 15 mins at 100kph (and return trip exactly the same)
granny shifting most of the time

not bad really 10L per 100k's

plus I get slightly better economy when i use ultimate (98 ron) once a month

I was just wondering if it's ok to put into neutral while scrolling down for a red light? For auto that is.

Riviera
16-04-2008, 10:12 PM
they recommend not to... but if your gunna end up sitting at the lights
after doing the neutral roll up to the lights then it should be ok when u put it
back into drive

the cars manual says, leave in drive when positioned at lights but if its going to
be an extended period like 5mins on a dodgey set of lights then its fine

CB7_OWNER

I always roll up to lights in neutral... but the way i see it...

Neutral gear = no engine braking = more use of brakes = more petrol.

But for some reason i still neutral up to lights lol...if i was driving manual i wouldn't recommend the clutch in at the lights though.

that aside...

It was a new week... and my fuel consumption got better.. this week i got 34/320km (hard to belief did exactly 320km right up too the petrol station agn).

But last week.. i redlined about 20 times ... dunno why my fuel consumption went down haha....my optimal 14.7:! air to fuel ratio must be in higher rev's for my car ( should get it tuned)

Re: auto neutral - why not?

I roll to a stop in neutral all the time. It's a habit - some may say a bad habit - but I've survived so far. My reckoning is, if I'm not in gear using engine braking then I use less petrol. It takes me less than a second to pop it into gear and release the clutch if I spot an emergency situation.

32.5 Litre good for 300km = 10.8l/100k

My average journey is very short, about 10 minutes. So is my car's fuel economy considered good?

I recently drove 2200km from QLD to VIC (mainly highway driving at 110ish) and i got an average of 7.5L/100km in my 1990 CB Accord (automatic). I average about 10 litres per 100km around the suburbs.

Good but not great. I previously posted my best known economy where I got a carefully checked 6.3L per 100km on a run to Queensland from NSW.

Now that's really good! Not sure what I'd get in urban driving, hardly do any...

PS Car is a manual CB7 (f22A9)

How is every1 going now that its freakin cold?? better fuel consumption for all????

NOT for me... some reason.. my fuel consumption went down the drain after i did a 2" catback....which was the start of the colder day's...

I got a 94 EXI auto, non vtec, an engine notoriously known for its crappy fuel economy even more so with the auto trans, its got 229,000ks. anyways..i filled up 60 litres (the tank is 65L in total) to the brim using vortex 95, since then ive driven it to empty trying to get the most accurate fuel consumption figures, my fuel lights been on for ages now, so theres probably about 3 litres left if that. Anyways, the odometer is reading 630km..so given theres a little left in the tank ive calculated 61 litres / 630k = 0.096 k's per litre...* 100k's = 9.6L per 100k. This is probably the best reading ive ever gotten from this car and im really pleased about ( : my driving style was normal gears shifitng at around 3k, and probably 60% highway 40%city..yay...

I've never actually done the sums for litre per 100km, but...

Driving style is mix of "granny" and "rev head" as per original description above. I do a mix of highway and city driving, mostly not bumper-to-bumper city though. Fuel is always BP Ultimate 98.

Current Accord '95 CD5 VTI with stock VTEC SOHC F22B engine, manual gearbox, 40psi nitrogen in tyres. For ages I pretty much just hit 400km per tank, usually filling up not much before the light comes on. Recent months have seen it adjust to more about 450km per tank which is quite interesting as I am not sure what has changed...

Previous car was Accord '96 EXI with non VTEC and automatic, no matter what I did it would hit about 350km before fuel light came on. Must have been something wrong with it... A long highway run saw about 420km. Glad it's sold anyway, auto bothered me more than anything. Manual gearbox FTW

When I had my 94 CD5 VTi back in the days , I was basically filling up about 59L (91ULP) for about 550kms every fortnight. so it was about 10.7L/100kms. This is driven with intent in the Sydney suburbs. Gota say it was a very nice car.

Yep as mentioned in another thread, recently I have been running it down to when the fuel light just starts to come on... I'm hitting 550 as well. It sits on the "almost empty" line for like 80-100kms! So guage doesnt work 100% accurate... hehe...

Same here mate, my light must be busted.
I remember back when i first bought my cd5 i drove up with some mates, and got no joke, about 643Km's on one tank and that was just the normal unleaded. Now that's economy! And all from 43 litres
CD5 is 43 litres i believe? That's how big mine is and it's a 95 Accord.

I just filled up tonight, 56.5L so it's definitely bigger than 43!

I'm not sure if different sized fuel tanks were released with this model. Have you pretty much run it right down to empty? And then kept going some more?

I thought my light was busted but I just never got it down far enough. My gauge is slightly out-of-whack and I can get an extra 100km's when the needle is on the empty line before it drops under and the light shows up.

Maybe you are right, i've never really pushed it, because my light is busted, and my needle is also outta wack, how can i found out instead of risking doing damage running it till car turns off? lol

Troy
03-12-2010, 10:43 AM
What damage does it do? It runs out of fuel and it stops. You put more fuel in and it goes again. (I could be wrong, it might do some damage, but I have run out of fuel before and that's what happened.) Basically when it starts to run out of fuel you pretty much can't rev it anymore, like it just starts dying. Every time I've been driving on the highway (and every time I had a jerry can because I was testing!) and it just starts backing off by itself. I pull over and it idles a bit wonky. Turn it off, fill up with jerry can, turn ignition to on (don't start) so the fuel pump gets going for a bit, then you can crank it up and pop in to the servo and fill up fully.

That's how I know. If it's really bad, someone tell me because I've never had any issues with my cars when I have done this. (Have not done it with my Honda though, not all the way out).

EDIT: That's why I was really surprised, like I thought the light was busted but I got another 100km out of it before the light came on! I was like... AAHHH Okay!
