There isn't a MY08 CRV!

MY07 designates the year in which the current model was released - not manufactured. The compliance plate will have the year of manufacture.
We purchased an MY07 CRV with the compliance plate stating it was made in January 2008.

(Another example would be the Impreza, a MY05 would be manufactured anytime from 2005 to 2007).

Generally speaking, a model will last about 2-3 years before a minor facelift. They upgrade the model in about 4-6 years. A good example is the Mazda6 released in late 2002. It had a facelift and minor improvements in late 2005. The new Mazda6 was released in 2008. So you can equate the original Mazda6 an "MY02" and the new model a "MY08".

Thanks for the reply. You are correct that there hasn’t been an MY08 released to date, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be one sometime in 2008.

According to Redbook, in 6.5 years there have been 5 model year releases, as follows:

Dec 2001 MY02
2002 MY02
2003 MY03
2004 MY04
Oct 2004 MY05
2005 MY05
2006 MY05
Feb 2007 MY07
2008 MY07 so far ?

What I want to know is if and when an MY08 will be released? I don’t want to buy an MY07 now if an MY08 is released shortly after. I have been caught like this before. Would anyone know if or how I could find this out?

As far as I know, the CRV isn't due for any changes for the next 6-12 months. Most of the recent changes in the Honda lineup was in the Civic (type R) and more recently, the new Accord and Euro models that is going toe to toe with the new Mazda6, Ford Mondeo and so on.

The best gauge is to look at comparable soft-roaders such as the X-Trail, Rav4 and so on. As far as I am aware, there isn't anything happening in this segment of market.

the '08 model would have no changes from an '07 model but was the concern of the OP that an '07 build wont be able to fetch as much as an '08 when it comes time to sell it? in that case i think its usually around 3 months after build they start to appear in saleyards but best to check the compliance plates on individual vehicles to make sure :)

It doesn't take 3 months - try 4 weeks!

The compliance plate which marks the date of manufacture is affixed at the end of the manufacturing line (after it passes QA).
It takes about 2 weeks for the car to be shipped to Sydney (from Japan or Thailand). Depending on the location of the final delivery, about 2 working days to clear the docks, 1-2 working days shipping for within Sydney or any major city. Another 1-3 working days for final configuration (tinting, rear parking sensors etc) and then it's ready to go. So if you add that up, it's a minimum of 3 weeks since the plate was rivetted onto the car.

We took delivery of a CRV at end of February and it had a January 2008 compliance plate. My guess it was manufactured around mid-January.

usually updates and limited editions start mid-life of the model, so at around 2-2.5yrs from original release
