Just got a type R gear knob. It has a locking nut which is used to be put in place so that the shift boot isn't so low and to 'lock' the gear knob on. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also when I test screw the gear knob the shift pattern is always facing the horizontal. To make it face the correct position it becomes loose. Am I not doing it right?

Please help a fellow noob :D

To remove shift boot all you need to do is unclip the plastic surrounding the shiftboot.

To get the shift pattern facing the right way, theres always room for more tightening :p

screw the bolt all the way down and then screw the gear knob all the way, so it is at its lowest whilst still facing the right way.

then screw the bolt up to meet to bottom of the gearknob and tighten.

Done and done. Thanks guys.

Before reading here what I had done was tried to remove the whole console. I unbolted absolutely every bolt there was in the console and it still wouldn't budge. I didn't realise that the shift boot itself was only held by 4 clips.

I would rep if I had repping power =(
Thanks again.
