no worries, they are a DOT street leagl tyre, but they are designed for people whoa re running in classes that require a street legal tyre, or need to drive from event to event... i strongly strongly would recommend seriously thinking about how you want your car to feel when youa re driving...

i had an experience last week where i forgot what i was on, and on a hilly bit on a local road i drive on, the rear end stepped out when i gave it a bit of a hit (no heat in the rears as id been granny driving until then)... they are particularly loud at 6-65km/h, and actually feel like you are driving on mud tyres...

when they are warm, they are SO good though, that sometimes you wonder whether it matters!... in any case... im gonna get some road tyres.

yes they are street legal.

They are not as bad as people think in the wet (just avoid puddles as they will aquaplane)

and be sure to buy them new or fairly new, dont make the mistake i did and buy old TR881's that are stale, same will go for all semi slick tyres, check the date and that they are not hard as a rock :P LOL

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how long does it take for a semi to go "stale"? I have a set of R881's that i plan on using for an upcoming track day.

Ahhh, just take them through a heat cycle and they'll be fine. So take it easy first 1-2 sessions

IMHO a set of "stale" semi's are better than any street tyres. My 3.5 year old Kumho V700's with 5% tread did enough for me on the track, they were grippier than my new street tyres, and didn't overheat or anything - and were better than any street tyres.

I've driven on Stale R881's before, on a heavy skyline, and they held up perfectly, and were muchhhh better than any street tyres.

Don't take notice of this staleness s**t. We're not race car drivers... we don't NEED brand new semi's. LOL. Save some money and buy second hand semis.

Thats alright man... I'm just waiting for this thread to turn into a shit fight now... and for all the "race car drivers/peterbrock part 2's/Tsychia's" to say I am wrong etc etc.

keep using 2nd hand semi's. They do wonders. We had a 2nd hand semi which POP @ 100km/hr. Was very fun.

Toyo RA-1's are supposed to be the same compound and should alleviate any street driving concerns.

Anyone know if they're available in Aus? Yonas?

Nick.
