Hey all,
I recently got an immacualte 1983 Toyota Corolla SE (1 lady owner, 95yo, its only got 79k kms on it)...
it doesnt have a tach, and ive got an old one lieing around at home, can anyone give me any insight into how a basic tacho is wired?

Your best bet would be some wiring diagrams :( But from what I know with an engine that age, you would hook up the signal wire (sig) to the coil and the remaining wires to wherever your tapping for power (pos, neg). I think that's how it's done.

But yeah, check out some wiring diagrams. :thumbsup:

yeh its unbeliveably clean and original... great fun to drive and REAR WHEEL DRIVE!
Ive done some research so far, and have determined that the green wire is for a signal from the coil, needs to be connected to the negativee side of the coil. Red is power, black is ground, and there is one more that operates the light inside the tach, so i have to find the cable for the headlights or try and get it off the fuse...
i THINK i'm on the right track, trying to track down the wiring diagram...

for your light cable,
intercept the cable from your light switch.
so when u turn your parkers/headlights on, the tacho light turns on as well.
thats what i did when i installed the gauges on my car =]
