View Full Version : ANY IDEAS? Problem: Rigid gear shifting (manual Dc2 VtiR)

I have a manual DC2.
Just today, the gear shifting became rigid when changing gears. Instead of shifting smoothly into gear, there is a slight resistance, halfway in-between neutral and fully in gear. A lot of force is needed to engage gears.

With clutch out, I tried shifting from 1st to 5th to 'loosen it a bit' and it shifts smoother temporarily, but then quickly becomes rigid again.

I had a service 2 months ago, also replacing transmission fluid, so it had no problems until today.

Any ideas of what could be wrong?
Tks

Did this happen immediately after stuffing up a high rpm shift from 1st to 2nd and crunching the gears badly? odd question i know but i've seen it cause a similar problem.

Check for shift linkage misalignment.

No crunching of gears. Totally unexpected.
Aaron, with the shift rods, can they easily misalign and is it fiddly to fix?

I've seen another DC2 with misaligned shiftrods. It felt like it couldn't go into R gear without forcing it in. Going into 4th first and then into R worked. But get this.... the engine was off. Get someone to check it out for you.

yeah, definitely get it checked out.

Car was cold... as crazy drop in Sydney temp! But that wouldn't affect the gears that drastically would it?

If your engine is off, it should still get into gear even when the temperature is cold.
