lightened outweighs the performance of a stock flywheel even a type R one

if you want daily driveability, the Type R is good enough.

if you don't care about comfort of daily driver and traffic, aftermarket lightened flywheel is the way to go. will rev quicker and lighter.

Comfort? How does a light fly affect day to day traffic?

Get an aftermarket lightflywheel in any case.

doesnt really affect comfort man.
unless ofcourse you bolt a button clutch up to that flywheel, then sure its a bit of a hassle in traffic.
get a lightened flywheel,good upgrade

get the typeR flywheel! lightened fly wheels are fantastic on the track where you only start the car once and can keep the revs very high up .. but in traffic, you do have to rev it alot harder to get it started ... and takes alot of getting used to and abit tiring in my opinion. With stupid traffic conditions nowadays .. it's stupid. I had a TODA lightened one in my DC2R and it was so crappy to drive every day .. and low end torque just goes out the window as well.

abit more of a pain to start stop, especially with an upgraded clutch.
Your more likely to stall.

That being said i still got one. Just painful if your stuck on ahill in peak hour

How heavy was that Toda flywheel? Which clutch did you use it with?

I think the toda one was about 4.2kg .. look it up on the toda site ..

I plan to put a 4.1kg flywheel into my car in the future, so will let you guys know how it goes (hopefully I won't be cursing too much when stuck in traffic jams).

A light fly does not affect driveability. Its the clutch not the flywheel.

I had the toda flywheel with the standard clutch as well as a exedy uprated one ... and it was just as bad as a daily driver. I know that some people do get used to it but try a car that has one. I myself wouldn't get another one in my cars.

what Joey99 and Limbo said. I've tried both, and using type R flywheel now. way better. less stress, especially after long day at work and traffic afterwards.:thumbdwn:

Well all I can say is you guys are soft. Have had my share of heaps of different clutches and light fly's over the years. HD Exedy organic & light fly, no issues at all. Puck cluthes & light flys, uncomfortable in traffic. But do what you do, each to their own.

i'd probably agree with you but it's not very noticable on a B16a compared to a B18a/b/c.

Ask anyone here that has a light fly on a B16, there was a thread about it... it's dissapointing... but the effort in taking the GB out, stuff the itr fly and get an aftermarket one

And yeah I agree with most others here... the only extra effort in daily driving with a light fly is having to rev it a bit more on take off... no where near the extra effort required with high power threshhold clutches that have like a 40 thousand tonne pressure plate :p

Did you have a lightweight fly in your crx? I reckon that was pretty drivable considering you had that clutch.

how much lighter is the type r flywheels compared to b16a2 and b18c2

yeah it was the XTR 3.9Kg (from 8Kg)... same one i put in the mrs DC4 (can't remember if you drove that one too)... that one screams whereas mine only had a marginal response increase. twas very drivable indeed even with the button clutch and pressure plate with +20% clamp load increase

same thing on a mates 4age getting a TRD light fly... barely noticable.... as was mentioned by i think bennjamin in that thread i spoke off... probably has something to do with torque or lack thereof

not much to be worth the effort...

That one was good. The only thing that caught me off was your clutch which had almost no friction point. :)
