the guy at the workshop promised me they will replace everything with new part, even a single tiny scratch, they'll replace it with new part. However, i am not sure about the shaft, since front left wheel bend little bit inward.... what do you guyz think? i am scared that they'll somehow repair the damage part and sell the new parts cliamed from insurance. omg doggy.

hey guyz,
do you guyz reckon it is reasonalbe for me to request the workshop to keep the damage parts so that i can have a look at it when i pick up my car.. since i am not sure if my car is in a doggy workshop or not..hahah (although it is aami qualified reparier). i still don't trust them...

they might get a quote on fender, front bar, door skin, rims, headlight (maybe), inner guard liner and the clips, side repeaters, and mudguard (maybe), plus respray. it can be a good $2K

best thing is to ask for a breakdown detail of what's being fixed or replaced. and ask another workshop to check it whether its true or not

thing about panel shops are, they're trying to gain profit from a highly pressed margin by the insurance company. so, most of the time, they will get a quote first, then if they feel like they can't make a good profit from it, then they will fix it, instead of replacing it.

fark some people need to learn to stand up for themselves!!! Grow some balls.

If your worried make requests as its your car, and your money.

If you want, get another opinion from another mechanic/certified repairer. you can always ask your insurer questions as well.

at the end of the day its your car, your money and your safety at stake. so its pointless holding back because you afriad of being embarrassed. I'd rather have a little embarrasement and know that i've got a safe car and haven't been ripped off.

 i have never had an accident before, so somehow no idea to all this. lol. anyway, i have called up the workshop and request to keep the damage parts. best i can do. everytime i called up, they simply guarentee here guarentee there, what can i do? lol wait till the car is fixed then i'll post the feedback up.

ps, quote damage $8000 include labour.

I reckon that's a ridiculous bad. but being a new car and labour included, that is still a bit believable. but again, ridiculous.

looks like what I did, that totaled to a repair bill of around $2,500 (mainly on the left side, not the front though).
I don't think they'll do any dodgy work on the vehicle, the aim is to get the vehicle back to the original state as it was prior to the accident, it's inspected after it gets back to the workshop from the repairer and given a detail (usually, do not quote me; this was from my experience from scraping a particular Civic).

14-04-2008, 11:05 PM
the list as of follows, as what i can see really subject to a personal inspection
headlight
guard
guard liner
wheel
door skin/shell
front bar brackets
front bar
hub and bearing
knuckle
control arms
strut

some of the suspension parts may be retrievable, but that's what would probably qoute.
a new car like that, they will replace all the panels with new ones.
most insurance panel beaters, don't panel beat no more, they actually like replacing things, which is a good, thing. if your car is going through insurance.
lol

$8000 is ridiculous bad.
Get a new bumper imported or wateva and thats DEFINITELY less than a $1000.
Even Honda!Something like INGs or even the FD2R would also be cool =P
So 2 panels $7000 = wtf?

EDIT//
referring to a personal accident.
I replaced bumper, bonnet headlights, respray, install everything...under $2000.

Car companies dont make money on the sale of the car. They get them out onto the streets and wait for ppl to bang them up and then cash in on the seeling of spare parts.

no, sales and parts are two different departments.

even tho, eventually all of the incomes are combined and going to the owner. but both departments have to make profit and have goals on their own.

also, if its paid by insurance (especially NRMA) they wont change the bumper with new one, the smash repair will tell you they will change everything with the new parts (they even write down on the quotation) but after you agree with them and they contact Insurance company for inspection, they will say "oh your insurance company doesnt agree with our quotation to replace it." anyway, gl on fixing it! mine is on the smash repair atm (my 3rd time after 1.5 years owning the car!!! - and yeah, all not my fault) cant wait to get it back ASAP...

who can break my record? ?:( (finger cross)

hey mate, how long did it take to fix ur car + all da insurance procedures? ...mine going to take minimum 2 weeks... just called up, quote increased to $8500

mine takes a few days only... and yeah they do a very crap job!!! (Honda Specialist my A*S!!!!). So when I come back to them again, they keep on saying "Ok we fix it, but we're bussy at the moment... we'll call u when we ready" blablabla... I call NRMA, but becoz I choose the repairer myself (yupz my bad on this one) so they cant help with this.

procedure is simple:
1. ring NRMA/Insurance comp
2. bring the car into their yard for inspection
3. choose the recommended repairer (or pick your own)
4. you can leave the car there, bring it to the selected repairer, or if you choose your own you might need to firstly bring in to the repairer for the NRMA + repairer to discuss the quote, then after that you can bring it in again to be fix (i kno its a hassle, but if you know a very good repairer dont settle with the one that NRMA provide - they're crap)

Hope this help...

i always thought if the car was less than 2 years old they replace it with new one if it gets damaged

vippy84
15-04-2008, 06:28 PM
They will always replace it with brand new ones.. as long as your car is still in mint condition and not too old.. my 2002 integra was hit by a P driver lady and I wanted them to replace the damaged parts with brand new ones.. and they did.. it cost the insurance heaps of money.. :P

also.. do what 'denot' said... just bring your car for repair in an approved repairer.. like in Adelaide.. RAA is usually the most reliable one.. I went to RAA approved repairer only.. I dont know about the repairer in your area though..

It wil take a while for you till you get back your car.. but if you go to a big repairer, you will be lent a car till you get your car back!!!

ouch!!!....bad damage mate
my bro LC just hit the tree, and they changed the whole door and fender due to badly damage and cheaper for them just replace to new ones (labour cost is not cheap here). U can see they change or just fixed (putty).
easiest way, just knocking, and hear the thickness of ur "new" door.
if thin as metal sound means new. but if thick, means they put some putty and re-paint

I think they will not change the bumpers (plastics) but might change the doors, 1/4 panel, etc. Also, you can get a brand new car replacement if your car is less than 2 years old and written off... if its more than 2 years and got written off, the insurance will pay out money not a new car...

Why not call your insurance company and ask them, if your with AAMI you should have a personal helper guiding you through the claims process, speak to them.

When I claimed with AAMI I would hear from my claim assessor every week updating me on what was going on, and he would always give me a chance to ask questions.

I've just recently repaired my bonnet, because i parked my car under apartment balconies, someone must have dropped a rock or something on it.

As the result, there was a massive dent. anyways fixed it, panel beat, respray front half of the car quite a good job from where i did it (i choose my own repairer, did not use what NRMA refers), and yes they did provide me with lifetime guarantee certificate.

Panel beaters don't know jack about getting the paint back to a good finish. They usually leave your car full of swirls. You will need to go to a good detailer for that. If repair was covered by your insurance, complain to them about the finish. Most insurance policies give warranty on repairs.

ok, i'll post some close up pics tomorrow.

somehow i realised the thai made Civic quality is very low. since the workshop replaced 1 of the passenger door, and i can clearly see the difference between the thai made and aus workshop made. The workshop did a pretty ok job on the door compare to original honda door, but not the polish part. Anyway, pics will explain everything. Tomorrow at this time it will be up.

huh? AUS made door? aftermarket door or "refitted" door from other (european) car sitting on their backyard? :p
