Hey guys I recently moved to melbourne. was wondering is there any people in melbourne that can help me out.

I'm still looking for a EG, not one insight that catches my eyes. although the ones that go pass geelong road are hot haha!

I need help on general advice due to this is my first time buying a car, and basically need some people/friends with the parts that will be slammed on the EG.

I am a JDM Enthusiast. I'm just doing my research for the do's and dont's so if you please help out, I'd be grateful and by chance in the future I could be the one helping you out.

Cheers.

much respect for those who holla.

Plenty to be done to EG's cosmetically :) Welcome to OzHonda buddy

B16A/B or B18C/CR, either engine is great. Appearance wise, EG'ers like to go for the Spoon rear spoiler (duckbill), front ambers and either blackened out fronts or stocky goodness. They add a pinch of Rota/Spoon wheels goodness and blammo, you have yourself a JDM'er. For an extra kick, get a set of EG6 front foggies coupled with a CF front lip  Slam the lil' mofo and enjoy!

For extra grins, slap on a mean header (TODA, Spoon, 5Zigen etc) plus a decent catback with an angled exhaust tip for loud VTec action. Then listen to the roar of the new cold air intake to boot.

Want to go even further? Deck your car out with TypeR rear seats and a set of black or red Recaro's at the front mixed with a DC2R shiftboot and knob. Skies the limit...As long as you have money to burn lol :)

BTW, my name's Nick.

b16 in a eg isnt worth it unless u dont really care how fast it performs. imo go the b18c2 or b18c7.

Exterior wise, it could cost you anywhere between 500AU to 1500AU depending whether you buy OEM, replica's or genuine stuff mate  That's just talking small stuff like ambers, lip, rear wing etc. Get in to the heavier stuff, a CF bonnet will set you back 700-900AU alone depending where you source it from. Rota's are around 1k without tires, but you can find replica's which aren't as light for around 500AU landed from the US.

Black housing is easy as cheese. Pretty sure there's a tutorial in the DIY section. There's also one for amber corners lol You can make them amber yourself if you want. That'll save a lot of moolah haha.

Let us know exactly what you want to do in terms of JDM modding, and we should be able to give you a decent estimate. better yet, give some of the traders in the traders section a holler and they should be able to help you out

Cheers

Original equipment manufacturer is what oem stands for. A buddy of mine recently completed his project eg hatch with the jdm B18C7 from a 99 Integra, imo it was definately worth the coin to get it installed, have yet to dyno it to check the tune but pre tune it was laying down 14s at Willowbank, not a bad effort for a budget build

just make sure u get a vti, or any trim with fuel injection as the carbie model requires a fair bit to put a fuel injection engine in for example a fuel tank, running fuel line, just makes it easier in the long run to just buy the vti hatch

hey there jayden,
welcome to melb! definitely will be seeing you rocking up to the next melb meet? i reckon hayashi has pretty much summed up what most people would regard as jdm modifications in terms of appearance. Obviously, at first sight, the fog lights and ambers will tell everyone that its different to most other EGs seen on the street. However there are little things as well, such as an EG6 cluster, jdm rear seats etc. Also you might wanna consider jap number plates too? They tend to be pretty cool at meets!

In terms of engine conversion, go for the B18c/r, you have a greater limit at the end of the day if you're planning to not keep the engine stock. I/H/E should get you producing around 120kw? stock type R motors generally get around 100ish kw atw. If you wanna be more hardcore and go the extra mile, aggressive cams, independent throttle bodies etc. wouldn't be surprised if you're hitting figures close to what the stock type R motor produces at the flywheel.

Suspension wise, go for adjustable coilovers. A decent shock/spring setup would set you back only a couple hundred less than a set of coilovers which provide adjustability for dampening, rebound and rideheight. However bearing in mind, coilovers are most effective on the track, so you may find that even on the softest setting, it may be too stiff, which is what i've found with mine. If you would prefer to go for shock/spring, i would recommend doing both rather than say just springs. For example if you just changed the original springs to some king springs, sure it'll be slammed but over a period of time, the standard shock absorbers will not be happy. Once again, looking to go more hardcore, you could get some adjustable camber arms for both front and rear since after you lower your car there tends to be some slightly excessive negative camber causing more wear to the inside of the tyre. For some extra bling, you may wanna dig some new rear LCAs, subframe brace, sway bar etc.

so yeah, there is so much you can do but i would suggest doing performance mods slowly so you can actually have the time to enjoy what mods you have applied and learn the new characteristics of the car.

cheers
mike

thanks mike!

hell yeh you'll see me with my stock eg @ the next meet.

what have you got in your eg.

i'll need lots of help from the ozhonda community.

I'm thinkin of doing exterior mods, recaros, shift boot, steering wheel and type R gear knob first.

ill move on to the engine when i have the urge for power but i will.

i keep thinking i want a b16 instead i dont know why. i am aware of how capable the itr b18's are.

time will tell..

cheers MIKE.

So you ended up getting the EG you were looking at? My egg is quite basic..

front tower strut bar
toyo proxes 4 (205/50/15)
CE28N replicas
mod project amber corners
mod project 6 way adjustable coilovers (lol yes i still owe 50 bucks! dw asap!)
mod project type R billet shift knob (SWEET)

planning a B18cR myself but cash is the factor. However i believe i won't require an engineer's certificate whatsoever as I will be deregistering the car to make it a track only car and hence there won't be the need to follow the 10% displacement rule.
For the mods you are currently thinking of, look through the sale threads, just spend some time sweeping through all that shizzle. i'm pretty sure i've seen PLENTY of recaro's with EG/DC rails, an EK shiftboot with red stitching, some Type R steering wheels and some gear knobs too.

Cheers
Mike

no i haven't im quite picky with buying cars :(
cos i know ill be with the egg for awhile.

to be honest due to the money factor I mite even just leave it stock and save up for a newer ride dc5 for e.g. i'll see how my cash factor is flowing then. whats the displacement rule?

MM89
18-04-2008, 10:54 AM
whats the displacement rule?

the displacement rule states that when changing engines, the change in displacement must not be greater than 10% otherwise an engineer's certificate will be required. For example, a D15B4 being changed to a B16a will not require an engineer's certificate because increase in displacement is less than 10% of 1500cc.

MM89
18-04-2008, 10:57 AM
by the way, thats if you want to keep the car registered. If it's not registered then no need for all the fuss! you can have a 5.7 litre V8 in it if you want! Downside is you won't be able to drive it on the roads, but saves alot of trouble if it's just for track i guess =]

i get cha..

so if i have a d16 to go to a b18 or k20 then i need a engineers cert. how much does that usually cost?

Depends on how much stuff u get done whilst you're there (seats, brakes, etc.), so it's hard to tell and the prices I know are only for QLD so it may be different for your state.

MM89
18-04-2008, 12:51 PM
don't quote me on it...but i think eng. certs start off like 700 bucks?
and yeah as EK1.6LCIV pointed out depends what else you get done as well..
going from D16 to K20 would most likely require a brake upgrade as you need something to stop that monster engine!
