i have a b16a from delsol. i am upgrading from b16a water pump to b18 type R water pump. the type R water pump has more teeth (22) so does this mean i use b16a timing belt or would i have to use b18 type R timing. i think the type R timing belt is a bit longer is this correct? help! lol

type r belt is what you need

can anyone else confirm this

so if u are running a b16a and use a TYPE R water pump, you need a TYPE R belt?

isnt the b18 block longer? does this not affect anything?

there is more teeth on the type R pump. The actual wheel is slightly larger (that is run by the belt)
Thats the only reason the Type R belt is slightly longer/more teeth.

i just swapped the wheels over so i could use the b16a timing belt
in my b16a

what is the process of doing this.. is it hard to do?

i am prob gonna get a pump from a trader here.. they only sell type r ones, so i guess i should get the type r belt as well for my b16a

um.. just looking at both pumps in my hand at the moment, how did you remove the wheel? press?

but isnt the idea of upgrading to a type r pump the fact that it has more teeth, meaning it spins slower at high rpm, reducing the chance of cavitation in the water because the gear is spinning too fast.....

might be some other benefit from putting type r pump on,but i always thought it was because of the cavitation

that pretty much is it. Its a design improvement that honda included with this "last generation" B series engine. ITs a good thing on any earlier B series engine too so IM id use the type R pump + type r timing belt.

Cavitation means that cavities or bubbles are forming in the liquid that we're pumping. These cavities form at the low pressure or suction side of the pump, causing several things to happen all at once:

The cavities or bubbles will collapse when they pass into the higher regions of pressure, causing noise, vibration, and damage to many of the components.
We experience a loss in capacity.
The pump can no longer build the same head (pressure)
The pump's efficiency drops.

OK... my turn for n00b question.

- I bought x2 belt/waterpump kits, one for b18 and one for b16.

- I'm going to build my B16 very soon so it'll be revving (plus i have low temp thermo and fan switch) so it cools down revving high in winter...

- B18 pump will goto my mrs B18b which she rarely revs high

Should I just....:
- Put the B18 pump/belt on my car (b16a2)
AND
- Put the B16 pump/belt on her car (b18b2)
OR
- just buy another b18 pump/belt kit?

i have a b16a(1)

i replaced my waterpump with a 22t unit (type r)
but there was already a 22t in there (i guess previous owner used a type r pump)

so i bought a type r belt based on the info in this thread. 14400p72014
but it is way loose, the tensioner has no way to remove all the slack

so then i put the belt that was already there, the b16a belt 14400pr3004
and it was nice and tight (which is logical because the pump before was also 22t)

so yeah, wtf? do people just recycle info and dont even know the facts themself?
isnt the b16 block shorter than the b18cr? hence the belt would have to be longer

now i have to sell this p72 belt and order a pr3

Run b16a belt , thats what I did to my old b16a.

I bought a type-r pump (22T) and replaced my old pump (22T), used a B16A2 spec belt and it fit just fine.

lol, ozhonda info strikes again.. just like the thread where people were saying b16a's dont have dual intake springs.. then this.. i am losing a lot of faith in the info on this forum..

EG5 : the code i gave for the b16a belt was of the markings on the b16a belt i removed from my car (also the euro EPC says it is for b16a's)

omgzilla: Yeah, so it seems b16a's need b16a belts with 22t water pumps.. but if you see this thread, like 3 people stated otherwise with absolute confidence (i guess it is just recycled info that everyone goes by, and no actual hands on evidence)

well i just ordered one from honda using the PR3 code.. said it has been superseded with
14400p2t004 (p2t instead of pr3)
