i really find it annoying upon searching within the forum that requires a 45second wait for each search.

sometimes i make a simple typing mistake so then i have to wait in order to search again.

or has this been covered before?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

has been - to prevent bots spamming.
It is alittle long , wait for Wynode to reply here and possibly reduce the length alittle

^lol wtf

it can be esp annoying when looking for specific posts..but a good safety precaution, maybe it can be reduced a little, to 30 seconds or something

i'm happy with 15-20 secs. would be good to at least shorten 15-20 sec imo

I agree.

15-20 or something.

45 is crazy long, and when your specifically searching for something its quite frustrating.

Searching is quite server intensive and there is no way it will go down to 10-15 seconds.

I might trial 35-40 seconds but this comes at the risk of possible reduced performance for the site. Are we happy with this trade-off?

If the Search didnt find any results (due to the person entering a spelling mistake or a 3-digit or less word), it should let you search again with no time limit, or at least a 10 second limit.

If the Search gives you results, thats when it should set a time limit.

Not acceptable if it lowers performance of the site. Not worth the trade off.

Agreed.
Sites performance already struggles at times so extra load on the server imo should be an instant no no.

If people get turned off using the search function, especially n00bz, we'll have more useless threads appearing.

And we ALL know there's an EXCESS of that + SPAM.

Unfortunately that is not possible.

If only the actually USED the search function more..let alone read the stickies (not just new users either).

You have to keep in mind that hitting the 'New Posts' button is in essence a search and there are people on this forum who press that button 24/7 as they troll the forums. Reducing the time will also mean they are able to do this more often = more resources been taking up on the server.

^ isn't the 'New Posts' search automatically generated and cached once a minute for everyone to use?

krogoth

lol

i dont think so, well it doesnt seem so anyway

i think evrytime u press new posts, it gets the latest posts for u

it isnt just bringing up cached results, i actually checks evrytime

but if it can be cached, that would save alot of resources

so in other words, you cannot reduce the search timeout?

see.. again I was searching for a specific thread, but with no luck i didn't find it and have to wait to be able to search again.
