Hi All,

I just thought i ought to share this positive information with you guys.

The missus and i and a couple of mates drove to dubbo over the weekend.

After the miserable wet winding roads through Lithgow, we reached a straight sunny blue skies stretch through to dubbo.

5 or so hours later we were at Dubbo (with a few stop overs in between and on cruise control pretty much the whole way) My 07 CRV clocked in on the trip meter 8.5L / 100km.

Leaving sydney with a full tank, Not once i needed to fuel up! i was laughing!! with plenty to spare (fuel guage only half with a 300km range to go) to drive in and around Dubbo.

Whilst my other mate with a small Hyundai Accent (which apparently is the fuel efficient cars) had to fuel up half way to dubbo and fuel up again at Dubbo.

All in all I only had to full tank again before leaving back to Sydney and the mate with the Hyundai had to top up another 4 times in total before reaching sydney.

Gotta love my car.

I am aiming one day i get 7.5 or 7.0L/100km! well, one day! if i find the most straight road in NSW.

cheers
Z

i've done 8.4 on our odyssey as well
the 2.4L engine is quite efficient

That's encouraging news. Thanks for sharing the news with us. BTW, is your CR-V manual or auto? and I assume yours is generation 3 CRV. (release feb 07)

hehe yeh,.. i guess we need to get out more on those open straight roads! leave the city far far behind...

yes i have a 3rd gen CRV and its auto.

reason for auto is i just didnt quite get the hang of manual with the way the console was situated high up and the clutch all the way down there. (i am unfortunately short.) so auto all the way.. its a more pleasurable drive.

Hi,

Don't go jumping to conclusions about the Hyundai.
The main factor while he may have had to fill up is due to the size of his fuel tank in comparison to yours :)

hey there

yeh look totally agree that my tank may be bigger than an accent and could be the reason why my mate had to fill up 4 times.

but lets do some maths on this..

im no maths genuis ok so bear with my primitive way of calulcating;

Hyundai Accent total fuel capacity is 45 Litres.

My mate did fill up every time his gauage was Half way.

So 45 litres / 2 = 22 litres (approx) The amount he had to full tank each 4 times he filled up.

So 22 Litres X 4 fill ups = 90 litres.

He had filled 90 litres worth of petrol in the Hyundai on one days worth of road tripping.

NOW, with my CRV;

Honda CRV total fuel capacity 58 litres.

I filled up my CRV when its was on the half way gauge.

So 58 litres / 2 = 29 litres (approx)

I filled up ONCE to top it back up to full tank.

I guess the comparison is clear as day.

*Hyundai Accent

90 Litres worth of fuel over 4 top ups in one days worth of road triping going thru the same conditions, environment, places, roads etc.

*Honda CRV

29 Litres worth of fuel over only 1 top up in one days worth of road triping going thru the same conditions, environment, places, roads etc.

I guess my point at the start of this thread was just how economical this car is in the "SUV" segment is.

Especially on a straight run.

You could say the Hyundai can run circles around me in the burbs, but even then a CRV is still cheap to run.

that is all hehe :D

he had to fill up 4 times? each time half a tank?

90L???? makes no sense at all

mrwillz

yes the size of the tank

the crv would be ALSO more weight

so dc2dc2dc2 u do ur research n come back

yeah
it sure does make senes waz

half tank approx 22L

filled up 4 times
4x 22L = 88L approcx

lol not that

im saying it doesnt make sense that the accent needed to use that much fuel

half tank doesn't always mean 22l
how do u know how many litres he put in?
fuel gauges are always 100% accurate

my mate use to have accent
they aren't that bad on fuel.
sounds like the accent is a fuel guzzling V8

mrwillz
28-05-2008, 12:09 PM
well from what he says
filled up 4 times

its his word

age of engine? condition of engine?
many factors to why it used so much fuel

krogoth
28-05-2008, 12:10 PM
but man, i still think something isnt right here

there is no way an accent, no matter wat condition its in will use 3 times more than a crv over a long distance, in the same driving conditions

whereever it be 22L, 18L 24 L

still he had to fill up 4 times

its still in excess

supercharged v8, lol

lets say both the crv and the accent travelled 400kms

crv consumed 29L, therefore its using 7.25L/100kms

accent consumed 90L, therefore its using 22.5L/100kms

thats ****ed

dont argue with mrwioz emogoth
he'll bash u with his big biceps
seriously the most an accent can use is 15ltr/100kmz
thats just being a tool and hoon everywhere
anything more than that is ridiculous
car must be running rich as a mf to be using that much fuel.

man my uncle has an SS, he takes on road trips evry now and then

crusing, he gets 11L/100kms and thats a 5.7L v8

Rich??

itll be pissing fuel straight through the system

itll be coming out of the exhaust like a torrent, on a freezing cold start, full rich cycle wont consume 10L per hundred, lol

wait wait....so he fueled up 6 times?
lol
makes no sense.
2 on the way to dubbo
and 4 times on way home
and u said 'half way to dubbo'
which doesn't mean half petrol tank
this is all too confucious.

hey all

LOL i didnt mean to open a can of worms.. i just wanted to tell everyone how efficient the CRV is.. and yes, i do love my honda.. isnt it that obvious that im in a honda forum posting honda threads about my honda? lol

look my maths could be wrong but im not lying when my mate had to fill up 4 times... i was amazed myself that i only had to fill up once! with enough left over to stretch it out a couple of more days!!

has any one actually been to dubbo from sydney ?

if you guys have i am sure you know getting past lithgow is a stop start, winding up and down road, its not a straight stretch... and plus it was raining heavily both ways.. so this could influence the performance of the hyundai... and when we did hit the straight road, i was on cruise control all the way and i guess his constant acceleration to try and keep up with me could be another factor...

and once in dubbo, we went around like crazy... from one place to another... for it was in fact a.. road trip.

who knows..

all i know is.. he filled up 4 times.

dc2dc2dc2

but then when u think about it
u say he filled up twice on way home
that means
he had a full tank?
for the rest of the week.
lol
