a mate just bought the alpine type r 12" with enclosure at jb....by serzly...that sub rocks...
he replaced his old dual 15" rockford P1 with the single 12" Type R...it is much better, clearer bass...its awesome...recomended man..the sound playing in the store is not even close on how good it is when its in ur car...remember...JB's store is always big

go down to some specialist stores and ask expert opinions. for the price there is many other options out there. but none are likely to sound incredible, it is entry level stuff. you might also be able to save yourself the hassle by changing some of the settings on your amp as that is where you will probably notice the most difference.

the type Rs are awesome, or if you could find them, JL Audio W series

Type R's are great. Heaps of our customers have gone for it for their fibreglass boxes.

Personally I would avoid the Japanese mumbo jumbo and go for something decent like JL Audio

Out of those two, probably Alpine, since Pioneer (and Sony etc..) manufacture thousands of other products and wouldnt be dedicated to car audio like Alpine is.

yes for $2000 they better be awesome.

You don't need a monster amp, maybe 1000W will be fine. 1000WRMS-2000WRMS amps these days are easy to find.

They drop low though.

both of them are mass produced and you will be having trouble to notice a difference. don't look at mainstream stuff unless you want it to look cool rather than sound good. yeah a type r sub has a pretty symbol in it that you can impress morons with but you will be disappointed if you expect it to radically change the sound of your entire system. best bet is get down to a car audio specialist, where they actually install stereos so they know what things actually sound like in a car. and ask their advice. tell them your budget and they will be more helpful than JB ever would be. Im not sure if the JB stores over east are the same as the ones here in WA though. if you want to make the most difference to your overall sound get a good set of splits. can get a nice set for the cost of a type r sub

read any review on an image dynamics"(as in link). even better. go on caraudioaustralia.com and ask them which they would go for out of that or a type r. similar price although this is second hand.

yeah go and have a listen to them. Dont buy the Type-R just because you wish you drove a Type-R :p

Go the JL W7's if you can afford it - The ultimate. I have 2 X 12" (1 ported - 1 sealed) and can not fault them - sensational! They look really clean when mounted also.

yeah um. i think you will find that the budget for a w7 is a bit different to the budget mentioned here. if you wanna brag make a thread about it.
