Hey yo,

this document is brought to you by this driver:
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q13.jpg
in this car: EK1 cxi - slowtek - nonvtec.

i felt like doing stuff instead of going to a rave, playing CSS or TF2
so i made a mesh noob grille today.

I also attached other attempts which failed in my eyes!!!!

This DIY is to show you HOW not to do the DIY's lol.

1. DIY attempt Red Door trims
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q7.jpg
this is my first door, i got owned!!! cause i didnt know what i was doing
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q8.jpg
used spray contact adhesive - dont use that, it sucks!!

2. DIY attempt Mesh Grille
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q2.jpg
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q14.jpg
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q15.jpg
You can clearly see what got owned!!!
I am ordering a CTR grille instead. This is disgraceful driving around in this noob grille lol. Maybe i will buy a permanent texter or some black paint and paint over the epoxy.

However, i learnt something hehe. I also learned that 5 minute epoxy is a beast, settles to rock!!!!

3. DIY attempt Tacho
This is my first mod. Very dodgy installed.
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q9.jpg
See the plastic pillar the tacho is installed to, i dont know if i broke a clip or what but its not fit in properly!!! How the heck do i fit it in? >__<
http://users.tpg.com.au/mcaoxuan/q10.jpg
LOL, i didnt want to remove my cluster so i dodgy taped it to the blue wire. Used a coat hanger for wire.

NOw, above is hectic...taped electrical tape style.

no offence but, if you had followed the proper diy guides you wouldnt have stuffed any of it up.
the mesh is actually ment to be cut alittle larger and held on from behind the grill, not glued on in the middle lol.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/96-97-98-HONDA-CIVIC-EK-VTi-FRONT-CENTER-GRILLE-BLACK_W0QQitemZ370046100214QQihZ024QQcategoryZ2969 5QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

blk_shadow
27-04-2008, 09:47 PM

simonnowis

the ebay grill wouldnt look too bad once painted to match the car, pretty much looks like an ek9 replica grill.
for the current grill just pull out the mesh and use a blade to cut off the excess poxy, then cut new mesh and use the screws behind to hold it.

I reckon, if you want to spray it black, spray it together with the mesh on the grille, and mask the rest.

matt/gloss black paint from any auto shop will do, and depends whether if you want to apply a clear coat afterwards.

Good attempt. If you want to remove the mesh, use a knife on the epoxy, but watch your fingers.

i can take the red bit off still - 12 screws or some shit
then i can go nuts and spray the living heck out of the mesh/other plastic bit hehe.

Take the red bit off, but put only a few thin layers. If you spray too much, the middle bit becomes too big/fat and won't fit back onto the red bit.

yep, hehehe..

don't go nuts on the spraying. thin coat layer by layer (wait 2-3 mins after each coat) otherwise your paint will running off the mesh and will be messy.

or as Aaronng said, the screws won't fit back in, as the holes become smaller cos of the paint.
