Hi Guys,

Can you please check if your car came with a pollen filter?
I was servicing my car on the weekend as it was time to clean the pollen filter for my 40 000 km service i realized it wasnt there!

I had my friends euro there and sure enough he has one.
As we were taking the filter out you could see all the dust and leaves it has been collecting and realize i have been breathing this shit in.

So please check and let me know.

AFAIK The pollen filter is not a standard item on the Civic. It is an option you have to purchase.

Yeah i called up honda and they said its optional for 75 bucks....

I would of thought it would be standard since it filters the air coming into your car when using aircon..... health standards..

Car comes from Thailand. By their standards, exhaust smoke meets health standards. :)

you can buy an after market filter pretty cheap. Mine's Ryco and while it isn't listed for civic, is the same as the one on the Oddysey.

My pollen filter traps leaves, pollen, and dead bugs. I'd say yes.. I noticed that I didn't notice any dead bugs flying out of my A/C vent. :)

Yes because the dust comes from our clothes and skin, and the dashboard itself doesn't have air blowing on it to recirculate. :)

hmmm thats wierd... coz on any other car I didnt see as much dust as my FD2.... :(. Which means the pollen filter is not worthed then... :(

How easy is it to install the pollen filter?

How easy is it to install the pollen filter?

Easy peasy. Open glove box, unhook damper arm, press indents on glovebox inwards. Swing open glovebox all the way down. Press the 2 clips on the tray inwards, pull out the tray. Replace filter (note direction of airflow on the filter). Reverse and remember to reconnect the damper arm.

Thanks Aaron,

I'll give it a go...although I don't know what a damper arm is. :o

It should be a little black plastic stick connecting the left side of the glovebox and goes inside the dash plastic.

I considered the filter when I was at RD last time but then thought even at the price, I didn't think I'd need it. Is it worthwhile getting any aftermarket ones? My asthma faded away a long time ago...

updating this thread as well.

a cheaper alternative to the Ryco RCA-108P cabin dust & pollen filter for the FD civic is the Wesfil WACF5302. i bought mine from www.eziautoparts.com.au. i don't think they have in their website yet but if you order it from them, it's defeinitely in stock. they also told me that they don't have ready stock of the Ryco RCA108P at the moment but can be ordered and wait for 2-3 days before they can post it to you.

comparison of price that i found:
repco: Ryco RCA-108P = $50 (3 days wait)
eziautoparts: Ryco RCA-108P = $32.25 + postage (3 days wait + auspost delivery time)
eziautoparts: Wesfil WACF5302 = $23.95 + postage (auspost delivery time)

Did you have to cut those panels out cos they didn't fit snugly?

Frost_FD
30-09-2009, 03:44 PM
why did you cut those panels out?
i didnt have to with the ryco filter.

jpestrada115
30-09-2009, 09:37 PM
nope. it's just that i read it in the DIY thread that shimian did a while back that these 9 panels have to be taken out as their purpose "is to provide back pressure if the filter was not fitted.".

http://ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71944

and yes, the Wesfil filter fits into the tray snugly even if the 9 panels are not cut-out.

SOrry to dig up an old thread
In regards to the FD2

I'm wondering if it's worth buying a washable cabin filter against the generic RYCO ones?
can't seem to find any re-useable ones within $50 (was hoping to score a K&N) ??

and definitely use this guide to put in: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?71944-DIY-Pollen-Filter-Civic-FD (< self reminder so i can find it again)
