and let it dry for a bit before spraying wrinkle plus

Step 5: Spray VHT Wrinkle Plus
Spray a few times
First vertical then horizontal then diagonal

Step 6: Waiting for paint to dry
You can leave the paint to dry by it self
or use a blow dryer to increase the speed

Step 7: Reinstalling Valve cover
once done u can install the rocket cover back on the engine
just remove all the masking tape and bolt everything back on
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg227/finalgutz/7.jpg

If you did put masking tape on the sign and letter you should remove it later.

hehehe or rocker cover.
Great job! Well done!
lol, not actually a rocker cover.
it's just a term that people have used for years.
rockers used to be at the top of the head when the cams used to be lower, and the rockers rockers at the top. hence the name rocker cover
but times have changed now the cam is at the top with the valves.
lol.

i know by people it means shit all, but just thought people would like to know
lol.

Maybe because it's fresh from painting thats y its seems more wrinkly
and doesnt look so wrinkly one others because it's old.

doin 2 rocker covers i found that if u spray too much it tends to get abit too wrinkly + it could be either ur heating it too quickly or the pattern u sprayed it. top stuff mate it came out heaps good

kazam

expand on this 'stud pattern' theory... i dont no wat u mean

wen spraying it, there are actual suggested directions u should spray . eg first spray horizontally, then vertically, diagonally and the opposite etc. each layer repeats until ur satisfied. then let it dry for 48hours. for me i assumed that because i sprayed abit too much and dried it abit too quick with a blow dry, it actually gave me abit too much wrinkle then i acutally wanted. hope this helps explain.

nice job.
Not my cup of tea though.
Looks like its been sandblasted and spraypainted red. Im more a gloss finish kind of guy.
Still a good effort.

clear instructions :)

but i don't know why you guys bother sanding the paint off... i bought a paint stripper from bunnings and tried it on a pretty large patch and it wrinkled and flaked off the cover within hours

lol probly coz people cbf waiting hours for their paint to come off........

bought a heavy duty one from supercheap today, mine came off in 5mins and washed away very easily, beats hours of sanding with elbow grease to get it all perfect :)

look at t3h wrinkle paint :p

is it 100% neccesary to mask up the spark plug holes?

jdm_b16a

I just scrunch up a small amount of newspaper and stuff it tightly in the spark plug holes.

is it 100% neccesary to mask up the spark plug holes?

yeah... just do as posted above by jdm_b16a.

not overly detrimental as my oil seems to dissolve the paint used but it gets into the threads and if you keep doing/undoing your oil cap it flakes the paint off and it goes into the engine.

u dont have to change the gasket - mine has lasted forever - just take extra care when taking it off and storing it for re-installation

the paint looks nice but the engine bay is filthy lol

needs a really good clean, cable tuck and i would paint the exhaust manifold heat-shield as well - satin/matt black looks good =D

so if ya want it wrinkly ya go wrinkle paint and if ya want a gloss finish, engine paint?

dougie_504

Just any high-temperature paint, as long as it's not labelled as wrinkle I think
