if i was to get another b16a (regardless of obd) will it still work on a del sol ecu? which is for example an obd 1 or 2

depends on the yr model, but pretty sure the 98+ was OBD2a pre was OBD1.
easiest way to check is look at the ECU plugs and check

well.. you can strip an OBD0/OBD1 block/head and 'convert' it to OBD2 using all of the harness, sensors and distributor (etc.) from the original OBD2 motor.

keep in mind, in most states it's illegal to fit an engine that is older than the chassis.. so an OBD0 B16A(1) from a 1989 CRX SiR is illegal to install into a 1998 EJ8 for example.. that is if you want to have it LEGALLY REGISTERED for use on the roads.. if it's a track-whore then put in what you like..

1996 and on is OBD2 with the exception of the Del-Sol CRX being OBD1 right through.

yeah thanks for the info guys, but im looking at buying a del sol, and get a jdm b16 OBD2 engine, just wondering if i could 'convert' the obd2 to obd1 or would i have to rewire the whole thing

you can buy one of those harness converting things

well your aussie-spec Del-Sol will be OBD1 and will have a B16A allready so jsut unplug all of the ancillaries (alternator, distributor, manifolds, wiring harness etc) and convert everything accross.. basically you're swapping a long block over.. by the way the Aussie Del Sol's have a 2nd generation B16A even though it's code is a B16A3.. so there's not really any advantage swapping in another A2 unless it's JDM in which case you score a 0.2 Compression point increase...

vt3c thanks for the info man, but i was actually thinking of buying a del sol with 200,000ks+ on the engine lol dont think it will last very long thats all
and yea its JDM

sounds good - JDM B16's definately have a slight edge..

just do the unplug, unbolt everything and swap over the long block or you'll have JDM vs non JDM wiring issues etc.

even 200,000km B16 is still OK if it's been looked after though.. rebuild the old motor with high-comp internals ;)
