hey guys. i just finished doing I/H/E on my B16A2 (EM1). i was wondering if a spoon lightened flywheel will make it rev quicker?
i mean wat are the benefits of a lightened flywheel on my car in terms of performance.
and also does any1 know how much these spoon lightened flywheels are worth?
i noticed that b16a's work better on lighter cars. i have 17 inch wheels on my car, maybe thats one factor letting me down. should i go light weight rims aswell in 17's? i cant go any smaller coz my car will b too low.
cheers guys. thankz in advance.
If you go the lightened flywheel you should also upgrade your clutch. To either a sports organic or heavy duty. From what I know the car would be more responsive, I'm not too sure if it makes it rev quicker. But I do recommend clutch and flywheel as your next mod
BTW from my knowledge a lightened flywheel places pressure on either the gearbox or clutch im not too sure.
And about the wheels :) Go lightweight 16's but get bigger profile tires. Your height should be fine! it'll look dope even more slammed

A good start to mod ur b16a with I/H/E...
a lightened flywheel and light rims can both give u less inertia weight to the engine load...the light rim also reduce the weight for ur car.of couse make it rev faster! a b16a always can hit 100kw at wheel easy with the right bolt on mod.
and dont worry about the smaller rims making ur car too low cus smaller rims using more thick tires.
i think 15-16 rims goods great on em civic with the right ride height, if u go 17 the stock brake will be looked a bit small.(i dont like that looking lol...)
and when u upgrade the fly wheel get a heavy duty clutch as well.
good luck!

spoon flywheel will make the car rev quicker, but the downside to it will be the revs will also drop much quicker. also on a hill you'll struggle abit as well.
pricing would be around 495. jdmyard & jdmconcept can get them for you.
16'' will also look better on ur car just slap on some bigger profile tyres as said above.

ok thankz dudez! yeh im due for a new clutch anyway. it slips when i give it at each gear change.
so there are down sides to a lightened flywheel ? hmm would it be really hard uphill ? i dont want any damage to either engine or gearbox. if thats the case i might not get it.
and can you please explain about the revs dropping quicker. thankz!
coz i had a race with my mate last night in his FTO mivec V6. i lost by about a car length. lol. but then agen mines only a 1.6L and his is a V6 2.0L. so i guess i did ok. but my mates say that if my car had lighter rims and maybe a lightened flywheel it might just beat it!!!!! LOL

it wont damamge ur engine or your gearbox.
it will feel a little different to drive, might need you to change the way you launch (apply a little more gas) due to the ligt flywheel not being abe to carry as much inertia to your wheels. also when changing gears the revs will fall much much faster.
it should rev more freely, more responsive as well and will also rev down quicker too.
i dont find that you struggle up hills really, jsut pop it down a gear if you go up a hill if you find that it does.
i think it was one of the best mods done to my car, makes rev matching much easier because of the response and totally changed the way the car revs out, its much smoother and quicker now - engine braking is also stronger when decellerating :)

This has been covered in so much detail everywhere. Search for it.
Came to the conclusion that Toda would be better than Spoon, as the Drilled parts are closer to the outside, which is better for inertia.
I wouldn't get Spoon - Go toda.

^Ive got a spoon.
It's just fine.
Go with whichever is cheaper.
Just know that it won't make you chop your mates FTO, bro.
Its good for the track, as it helps you engine brake better and rev up quicker.
If a car with a lightened flywheel raced one without (same car), they would finish at the same time.

light flys are shit on B16a...
if you do get one make sure:
- you get it cheap... don't worry about real expensive ones
- as above, get it done with your clutch.
ask anyone here whose had a flywheeled B18 & B16... after driving a B18 it makes it seem there isn't much of a difference on the B16.. but yes it revs quicker... money better spent on cams imo.

There is a differance.. Mostly on the track though.

ok i might not get one though. just maybe a heavy duty clutch. my clutch slips a little bit on every gear change and that pulls me back a bit and gives the FTO more time to creep away. if you know wat i mean.
cheers

Stop street racing.
If you read what was written above, it was said that if you change the clutch, you might aswell get a flywheel.
Exedy kits can be pretty cheap.

i got a spoon lightweight fly in my b16 and at first u dont feel much difference but u do notice it when u drive one with the fly and one with out
probly one of the best mods i've done to the car
oh and as the others have said, if ur doin the clutch do the fly at the same time, save money on labour cost

Elmo - Spoon and Toda are the same price.
Don't budget on a lightened flywheel, especially if your running a heavier pressure plate or heavy Duty clutch... unless you want the flywheel to shatter. That's fun... also veryy exxy to fix.

Are you sure the clutch is slipping, and it's not you spinning the wheels on gear change?
Get smaller and lighter wheels - 15's or 16's. If your worried about straight line performance, and your car is fully dumped bro, perhaps you have too much neg camber. Look into that, and get some better tyres, so you can launch and hold better traction.

Spoon flywheel or not, a lightened flywheel will rev faster, which means ur vtec zone arrives sooner than stock which is gd.. as b16a is virtually torqueless and needs such help alot..
But, Spoon flywheel are expensive, so try cheaper brands.. Dun jus pull engine out to install a flywheel.. Do it as u said with a clutch swap since ur clutch not working so gd.. And V6 mivec is lucky becoz he had torque.. With the below mods of saving weight, i mention u should match him... If u race him again, at least make sure its safe on roads.. no other cars at all..
IMO, with SPOON flywheel that i have, i felt a small lil diff in acceleration which makes it at least a useful mod..But hard to justify the $$ spent as we are all playing N/a which is not cheap.. To feel any real acceleration/pickup improvement, get the light flywheel and clutch combo, get really light 15" rims, strip the car(FREE!!!) and lose weight(FREE!!!) if u are sort of a chucky fella..lol..
anyway some ppl in this forum loves discouraging ppl from doing every single mod becoz they say everything is marginal.. It all adds up..So do ur own research, gather different opinions and do wat u tink is best.. Good luck..

^^^exactly!! it's noticable but not as noticable compared to a bigger engine because of the already lack of torque.
don't bother with a s poon... get an XTR stage 3 clutch + 3.9Kg (9lb) flywheel from the states for $400 delivered!!

hey guys, been reading wat you guys have said, thankz for ur input! oh btw im a 4th yr mechanic which means labour will cost nothing, ill do it at work. ill just buy the clutch. my mate selling me a spoon flywheel for $150.
im not sure if i still want to put the flywheel though alot of people have sed its not that good on a b16 and on street.
yeah im pretty sure that my clutch is gone. im sure its not my tyres spinning. it doesnt screech seconds lol im pretty sure it should though.
also 16's might look a bit small on my car. i have a front lip, side skirts, rear lip. so yeah thats one reason i dont want to get 16's.
cheers guys
