Has anyone installed an aftermarket shift-knob for Manual FD Civic?

I bought this S2000 style shift-knob but can't get the gear boot to sit flush under the new gear knob.

With the stock shift-knob a cable tie can be clipped onto the bottom bit. But on my new shift knob you can't.

Any advice?

i dont think you can as the pics ive seen shows a gap between knob and boot cover. Maybe you can super glue the boot cover to the stick so it sits right below the knob?

i have one but i got rid of the knob and plastic clip on the boot completely.

so boot sits on the bottom with the "stick" exposed slightly

still looks ok

i cable tied mine to the bottom of the knob or place a nut and cable tie to the nut

I didn't take Before pics, as it didn't look good coz didn't sit flush.

But got some After pics, looks much better now. Decided to keep the plastic clip at bottom of knob. The heavier/shorter knob feels & looks much better now

That looks great! Where did you get it from? Are those S2000 style shiftnobs on ebay fits the 8th gen civics?

I have seen them on eBay...But I bought mine from a local car accessories shop (Perth)

Mine came with universal fittings, screw on type (not allen key). Fitted quite good, nice & tight :)

The shift-knob thread size for EK Civic, is same size as 8th Gen Civics

What I done is not perfect, but still looks ok. I wrote up a guide on how I did it:

Materials:

- Cable Ties
- Pliers or Scissors
- Thick 3M Tape (Can be single sided or double sided, I used double)

Time to complete: 30mins or less

1. Remove gear-boot surrounding (Grab on surrounding & pull up, should unclip quite easily)

2. Pull gear boot upside down around shift-knob (Should look like "V" shape)

3. Snip off Cable tie on around boot adapter using Pliers or Scissors

4. Pull the gear boot back down

5. Unscrew original shift-knob (Counter-clockwise)

6. Remove & keep the original boot adapter (the plastic silver type ring under original gear knob) - Use Flathead screwdriver to pry out

7. Cable tie the shift-boot to the plastic adapter.

8. Clip gear boot surrounding into place.

9. Screw on aftermarket shift-knob (Clockwise)

10. Turn it till it is tight & set to your desired height.

11. Once on tight pull gear boot upside down again

12. Start wrapping 3M Tape on gear stick (just under boot adapter), wrap the tape till it is slightly wider that the boot adapter

13. Place cable tie around the 3M Tape & pull tight (this should hold the boot adapter in place & leave no gap)

14. Pull gear boot back down & clip into place

15. Admire finished product

1st u will need to remove the gear surrounding to remove original gear knob...And yes, I think it will look a lot better if u keep original adapter.

PM me if u still need help :)

The throw is much nicer than using a taller shift knob. I used to always use the Razo RA66 400gm one, but this one kills it. Less shift miss and more precise for rev matching

I hated the plastic boot retainer just flopping below accessory gear knob and not suiting it at all. I removed the plastic thing and just rubber banded the boot to the gear stick. Knob is Blox neo chrome, it does get hot but not too bad.
Short shifter and weighted knob is a great combination.

That looks like my arc :)

Yes weighted knob combined with a short shift kit is magic.

I have the TWM short shift kit for civic Si. 30-40% throw reduction on the butt dyno

Yay. That means it will fit. It's the nicest one I have seen with some form of heat stopper :)
