just the normal wear and tear i suppose.

tyres, engine condition (oil, belts, service history), brakes, clutch if its manual. and usually the trailing arm bushes.

Well first off your not gonna find a 2000 civic vti-r's. We didn't get the facelifted version in VTI-R

But as above check mounts, gaskets, fluids, clutch wear.
Also usually if the exterior and interior of the car is not well kept then that shows something about how the engine is kept

Thanks guys yeah my bro wants the coupe not hatch. Its so hard to find any coz their rare. We saw one on Sunday but it was shit. The steering wheel wasnt aligned and it kept pulling to the right while accelerating and under braking. Some fuses were missing too and i dont think the vtec kicked at all. I drive a DC5R and i know when my vtec kicks!

with a b16 you will know when vtec kicks in. Its pretty noticable even stock. Prob more so than any other b series or k series

Yeah i thought so. The one i test drove didnt kick at all.

did u test drive the car for long? because i know that the car has to be a certain temperature before the vtec can kick in because if the engine is to cold the vtec wont kick in!

;1672140']was it that red one for 12k?

mrwillz..

are you talkin about this EM?

how do you know itsa preface front end? does this mean its not the original EM bumper?

as for the headlights? do they differ to the EKs?

also..

how are the b16 engines in the EM's

Since some of you guys own one how would it be as a daily driver?

any posititive/negatives overall?

you can tell by looking at the front bumper that its a prefacelift from an ek hatch 96-98. cuz it has mouldings plus no seperate area for foggies, ej8(pre facelift coupe) dont have mouldings. Stock EM1 comes with facelift bumpers 99-00 civics.
Headlights differ civic EK,EJ 96-00, to the headlights from EK,EM 99-00.
plus the bonnet and fenders diff.

B16 are a good fun engine for a daily.

so the attached has a genuine EM front bumper?

could u show me an example of what a fender is? sorry

mrwillz

its the front end, the side panel
it is different between the year brackets 96-98 and 99-00

all em1 (civic coupe vtir 99-00) should have the same bumpers as the silver one attached aka facelifted

Yeah it was the red one on car sales for 12k. I drove it when the car was warmed up and no vtec. I test drove a black one last night and it kicked...i felt that shit. We are gonna buy it. It was a very clean car...a bit expensive but we got her down to $14,200 from $16,500. No damage at all and no scratches too. Xforce twin loop and CAI otherwise stock.

IMO, b16 is really painful for daily driving if you do a lot of freeway drive.
100 kmh cruising at about 3500 rpm 5 gear i think?
It may be music for some ears, but it's noisy for me. :(

around 3.5k
which i think is pretty normal?

dc2r's are enarly 4k at 100km/h

My D16 do 100kmh at 3000 rpm. 110km at less than 3500 rpm.
It makes melb - syd trip more bearable.

dc2r is 4k, ek9 i think ~4500 rpm.

The Vti-R and type-r are really geared for speedy accelleration, hence the short gears.

i'm pretty sure the ek9 gears are longer than the 98spec dc2r that we usually see in australia

but yes travelling at a constant 3.5-4k rpm does get quite annoying especially if you have an exhaust

browsing thru carsales saw that black em1 for 16.5k thats nice and stock apart from the xforce..

nice buy!

what range should people be looking to pay for a coupe?

still saving but lookin forward to a EM1 or DC2. Was looking into a EG but I dont wanan go thru all the trouble no money to burn :(

So EM or DC, I can't seem to choose one.

never driven a EM, driven a JDM DC2R (blew my mind)

I want a bit of performance, looks, petrol saver, insurance decent price.

between the two engines whats the common problems for the two?

LOL make sure you have stock body parts.. it's been a bi**h for me to get these parts especially the tail lights. And my side mirrors had indicators on them WDH? Now gotta make hole in fender to put blinkers on and buy original side mirrors... buy blinker harnesses.. side mirror harnesses etc.. dunno why someone would hurt a civic like that LOL. And this guy who I bought car off had a preface Mugen Front Replica put onto the facelift... .___.

Hi Vin... was expecting you to reply it. ;)
Sorry, my mistake. Vin is right  he's got b16b.

Maybe when it's 110kmh, then we'll see 4000+ rpm.

haha all good...

anyway, em1's afaik are generally ok with wear and tear... like any other car, if it's well maintained, it should last a long time. only thing i heard was their build quality wasn't as good compared to EK4/EK hatches cos the EM1/EJ8 was made in the US... more in terms of panels creaking, no biggie. make sure timing belts have been changed if the car's clocked ~80,000-100,000kms.

apart from that, one of the best cars of it's generation...
