Hi guys,

Just had the 1000KM service done by Honda, apparently service guys told me that the ODC do not require oil change @1000km? is that the case?

I would've thought they put run in oil (mineral) in the engine and change it out after 1000km.

anyway, I just purchased honda oil/filter and will change the oil for peace of mind.

Honda didn't change oil on my ODC too @ 1000km service and I changed @ 3000km which i treated as engine "run-in"

hi baboo,

i actually asked the the dealer before i bought teh car, he also told me that honda didn't change the oil for 1000km check as it is not required from teh service manual, if i wanna so it, i have to pay extra.
as far as i know, the 1st 1000km checkup should be free? am i right?
baboo, how do you change the oil yourself, or you ask someone to do it for you instead?

That's strange, when I had the Euro, I had 1000km service with oil change.

it basically runs the same K-series engine setup. so I do not know why EURO needs it and ODC doesnt need one.

1000km checkup is free. It basically just run through the mechanical side and ECU to pick up if there's any fault code.

To do an oil change is not very hard. :)

i dunno why also.... it seems to be oil change is very common for all the new car in their 1st service.......
but i asked my colleague, he also told me that there wasn't any oil change on his lancer too when it was 1500km service.....
but be safe, i will ask them to change the oil for me......

most car manufactures dont do an oil change at the first service, i will be doing mine myself in about 300km that will be 3000km which i think is a good time to do it

Didn't realise that there wasn't an oil change at 1000.

They used to do it and they should be.. I reckon anyways... My 05 ODC got the oil change.. I think theyre just cutting cost these days and advising its not needed however.... If your a real car guru then i would suggest that you do.. Its just gives you that better feeling that shes running A-OK

Put it this way, its recommended but not compulsory :p

Its just like the 5k or 10k service theory... Most car fanatics will service every 5k however 10k on the car is still suitable (obviously 5k is better though)

Hope this makes sense..!!!

the oil doents need to be changed until at least 5,000km's. the oil thats in it from factory is a run in oil.
the oil or the filter should not be changed at the first 1,000km service. If the dealer doesnt tell you this or doesnt make you aware they are ripping you off as they already get paid to do this inspection by Honda Aus.

i just bought some genuine honda oil and filter, not badly priced, $50 for oil and the filter, ive done 3500km already, so will change it some time this week,. as for running in, this day and age with honing advances, etc. a motor should be run in after only 30km, if it aint run in by then it never will

i work at a honda dealership and i trust what information im given by the manufacturer. besides, if you dont have to spend money on a first service why would you? there is no reason why a vehicle would need oil at 1000km's.

My Euro had a 1000km service and the oil was changed. But in 2007 honda changed it to 10,000km. Apparently Honda use special wearing-in oil that protects the engine from the metallic particles, or something like that...

My 03 Euro had oil change at 1000km as part of service protocol. I had no choice. Labour was free, but need to pay for cost of the oil, which surprised me at the time. (Most other manufacturers free).

CR-V is going in for 1000km service tomorrow, I am glad that i have read all above posts. So I wont be shocked when they tell me no oil change required.

Maybe Honda has changed their 1000km service protocol.. using longer lasting run-in engine oil?? having said that, what happen to those car sitting in the stock yard for months?

my friend bought a brand new Euro Febuary this yr (2008). Car is made March 2007, which means the engine oil has been sitting in the sump for 11 months. If it takes another 6 months to clock 10000km, that means those juice have to suffer 17 months.

different factory additives is why.

and yes the first service is just a checkup, but there is no way they'd look at your ecu unless your engine light is on lol

It must be some super factory additives to mitigate the initial metal wears of new engine to last for 10000km.

My personally view is, since modern engine can easily do over 200k km mileage with traditional maintenance schedule. Car manufacturers and dealerships are pushing maintenance saving as a selling point. Also with better quality engine oil, modern engines have better protection comparing to 10 or 20 years ago...

Does anyone know what's in the factory fill, what super additives?

CR-V had 1000km service, no oil change. Chatted with my friend. Her Euro did have oil change at 1000km service. The dealer waived $38 engine oil fee. so she paid $0. She was happy.
