I have a eg2 delsol with a b16a2 but I've hurt my back and to make life easier I'm looking at buying a eg5 vti auto hatch with a d16y1 as my 2nd car just to use as a runabout.
Well what I'd like to know is will I be disappointed with the performance from the d16y1 compared to my b16a2?
I havent had a chance to drive one yet (the one I like is interstate) and would like to hear others opinions on this...

Same capacity car, but in saying that,
DOHC > SOHC anyday!
You'll notice the difference for sure... but you'll probably get bored/used to it fair quickly also.
If its jst a run around... b16 is all good :)

yes, especially considering its auto. dont expect any bang from it. excellent on fuel tho...

yes you will probably be dissapointed, its quite the difference. your probably better of saving a bit of cash and just buying a regular gli, cause d16y1 isnt that great stock and coming out from a b16 it will be even worse lol

problem is i have the b16a2 manual (and love it) but im having problems with my back and somedays using the clutch is near impossible, the vti im looking at buying is the d16y1 :o its auto so i know I'l loose a bit of power straight away but will it just be gutless compared to my delsol? i feel the d16y1 will be the 'zippiest' and closest thing il be able to get in an auto

So long as you dont plan on getting 0-400 in like 10 seconds, im sure the d16y1 will pass most, if not all of your day to day street requirements.
It is relatively gutless in terms of "punch" comparing to the b16, and you will probably get annoyed with it at times...
But end of the day, your back, health and $$$ is whats most important... so get it if thats ur budget :)

lol its only going to be a run-about (b16a2 is the one i use for fun) i will probably use the civic just for when im driving in traffic so i wont need to give it much to move at 40km/h lol
its either keep the del and get the civic or sell the del and buy something newer (which i dont really like the newer cars, ek's just dont do it for me, and im not that keen on 2000+ models)

hmmmz i think then id be looking at over the 10k to buy one (if i can find one thats genuine), i think id rather stick with the buying a au vti auto for under 10k.

mmmm i didnt think of turbo possibilities that sounds like something i could think about for 12 months time *would the auto hold up to it though?*
im avoiding buying from west coast if i can, id prefer to drive the car back from where i get it and wa is just tooooo far

If it's gotta be auto then something with larger capacity might be better for you.
3rd gen prelude or LS teg.
Both of those in auto would be "zippier" for a daily compared to the eg.

Ive had a ls a few years ago (dont really want another one) and son has a lude (im not all that keen on them) i like the eg's, its pretty much just to go to and from work and airport. :o

Driven a auto 3rd gen prelude and it would definately do the daily duties and well and truly filled your requirements for it :p

i've driven a Ek VTI and i have to say the performance is really lacking. It doesn't have the kick of a b16a. But saying that my gf got a d17... its a 1.7ltr SOHC vtec from a Civic VI and it was alot better. Also the Civic VI is much roomier and sits better(better for you also) than the EG & fuel economy is really good also.
I'd look into it if i were you

yeah i guess so lols, personally i don't really feel much anyway, my mate has an auto vti, when i gas it down on gear 1, don't really feel anything, but gasing all the way down on d4 or w/e, i feel a jerk at around 6ish or something (can't really remember) but still feels the same doing it my way :) ;) :P

HAHAHAHHAAA that thing is a boat ive said it once and ill say it again
If you wanted a prelude a friend has one that is wasting away (though its manual and needs rego :thumbdwn:) so pm me if you decide a boat is a better way of cruising through the concrete
imho a eg auto would probably be best for you :)
Just remember one thing....dont forget your DE15OL :p
i had an ek4 and also a d16y engine powered car
d16 = from A - B... zomg so boring lmao
b16 is nothing special but theres a huge difference and there is no doubt you'll be dissapointed with the power unless you wanna go vroom vroom. But for daily activities it should be all sweet
unless of course you've got a shit load of ppl in the car and ur going up a hill. Downshift to 1st ftw
b16' good car to runaround - Recommended

Yea but with a lil bit of work a B16 is awesome fun and has balls. I've beaten a dc5r up a slight hill with 3 ppl in the car b4. Freeway onramps ftw

Lloyd its a DE15OL get it right lol and i'l be keeping her ;) (we have a second lood wasting away here :p)
when the breeze first came out my hubby use to have it to drive as a company car it made it up and down the freeway to work (including mooney moony bridge lol) i didnt mind taking it shopping back then (very easy to park and avoid idiot drivers in) but it had no power what so ever. since driving my mini beast delsol i couldnt go back to a 1.3 i need a minimum of 1.6, im not out to try to break any land speed records in a auto vti but i dont want it to feel like the breeze did (gutless)
