People,

My da9 has done 130 000kms on the stock b18a1 engine. I want my car to last another 2-3 years, and after that it becomes a project car, so reliability isnt an issue.

I'm considering replacing the oil pump, because its failure seems to be one of the few things that will completely destroy an engine in a matter of seconds (compared to say, overheating, which you get some warning of, with the temp gauge)

What are people's thoughts on this, and (on a stock engine) if your oil pump has failed please say how many k's your engine has done.

i think your oil pump would be ok,i dont think its a common problem.
if your worried about it why dont you get an oil pressure gauge just for some peace of mind.

yup as Claymore said, engine light comes on stop the car.

When i busted an oil leak i stopped the car, and no issues at all.
I have an oil pressure gauge but i didn't look at it in time, saw the engine light first and stopped. THen noticed all the oil leaking out of the car on the road ;(.
Towaway home.

Hardly even heard of many cars with oil pump problems. Only ones that don't get serviced or running at extremely high RPM
