OK will parts for an FD2R (yes I know not sold in Australia) fit a normal FD2 (Civic sports sold in australia)??

You can get a GruppeM air intake for an FD2R but was wondering if it will fit for the Australian delivered FD2

yeh it will fit dude, same engine (not spec wise). same chassis code FD2

No... the FD2 and FD2R don't share the same chasis... for example the front fenders are wider on the R... so a front bumper for example on a FD2R (genuine) will not fit a FD2. A lot of the chasis is exactly the same... but not everything. As I said.. the front is a bit wider on the FD2R.

Don't know about the engine.

So I'm not saying it won't fit..

isnt the chassis the actual frame of the car? and the fender a seperate part? eg if you crash you dont replace the chassis you would replace the fender.

does the type r front guard not bolt on?

^ sorry i prolly used the wrong terminology regarding the fender... but I know that the front bumper of the FD2R is wider than the FD2... and so you can't put a genuine FD2R bumper on a FD2 without modification... as the chasis is wider in the front (slightly).

Either way this is somewhat irrelevant as really the area in question is the engine bay.

Gruppe M intake wont fit civic sport because theres no mounting point for the air flow meter, FD2R does not use Air Flow Meter.

^ so is that FD2 (civic sport) and (vti model) using Air Flow?

so what do the FD2 use then? does that mean that I should use the Injen air intake?

the F20C and JDM K20A seems to be the last Honda engines not to use MAF.
The new engines are all using air flow meter, for better fuel economy and lower emissions probably.

I';m still confused, does that mean that my new 08 Civic Sport does not use MAF?

^ mkfelia, your FD2 uses MAF.

not just the engine you need to worry about when fitting an intake like the gruppeM, you need to worry about the throttle body where it connects to the intake. I'm very sure the FD2R throttle body is larger than the FD2.

Euro's K24A3 doesn't have an AFM.

GruppeM tends to reuse the current intake arm. So the throttle body diameter isn't an issue.

spot on.

so two questions then,

Will tha KN filter showed in the previouse page be able to fit the FD2 with the current throttle body and its a definate NO to the GruppeM fitting?

as the chasis is wider in the front (slightly).

Where did you source this information?

I was under the impression DBA-FD2 (Sports) was the same ABA-FD2 (Type R)
Just the ABA-FD2 was lightened and strengthened... I'll try to find where I saw this and post it.

FD2R's width is 1770mm (http://www.honda.co.jp/factbook/auto/CIVIC_TYPE_R/200703/08.html), while normal civic is 1750mm (http://www.honda.co.jp/factbook/auto/CIVIC/200509/27.html)

Isn't that from the bigger fenders?

Philip Lee

^ yeah, most likely for the wider track etc.

So the chassis itself is probably the same as those dimension are taken from a completed car rather than the chassis alone?

Philip Lee

i'd say completed car.

the chassis is no different at all

its jsut wider fenders, which allows for a wider track due to diff brakes and suspension geometry

17-10-2008, 06:33 PM
Does that mean that all of the fds have the same chasis??like the fd1 and fd2 and fd3 and fd2r?

trism

yes. its just the unboltable body panels/motor/suspension/brakes/interior that get changed

I am also trying to get a intake system for my sports
