I had a friend who had a carbon fiber GT wing on his WRX, don't know what happened but after a few months, the color started to fade as in the shiny surface turned bad giving this yellow-brownish color. maybe cos of the sun  Anyone heard of that?
does it happen with carbon bonnet too ? is it fixable? and is it then possible to paint a carbon fiber bonnet into a designated color? (I've never heard of that but it's better than keeping a dead bonnet)

yes it happens
why? because UV in OZ is extra strong
happens especially to all the copy stuff....

The reason the CF faded like that is cos UV destabilises the resin that was used to make the wing. To solve this, during manufacturing UV stabiliser should be added to the resin.

Yes it will happen to any CF when exposed to sunlight.

Once it's done it's done, it needs to be replaced whole.

And yes like any other surface it can be painted over. You just lose the look of the CF, so if you've bought it for the sake of the CF look, it'll have to be tossed and replaced. Otherwise just paint it

I know plenty of people with carbon fibre bonnets who have never had a problem with fading.

If you search some of the american honda sites, you'll find that pretty much all CF stuff fades - but you can fix them quite easily....dont remember how...

Obviously most people here have had the common sense to find CF products that have UV stabiliser in them, ie. during manufacturing.

Make sure you ask that before buying anyting CF

I'm not saying people went out of there way, more likely than not, they were fortunate they didn't get the dodgy stuff

You can be sure by asking them, maybe get them to guarantee it has it and if it fades, get your money back.
