Hey, this is bit of a noob question, but i was wondering what gear i should be driving around in to save on fuel, D3 or D4 only when traveling over 80kms
Cheers

D4 of course...with D3 on 80kph, u'll have quite a high rev and in turn, use more fuel...

not quiet it depends on your throttle position. But most likely the throttle will have a little more pressure on it to keep it up to speed

It's an Auto... Drive in D4, if you press down on the throttle, it will change gears down to 3 if needed. Just stay in D4 mate.
If you stay in D3, you cannot go past 3rd gear, and hence at higher speeds you will sitting at higher RPM, and thus using more fuel.

Hey thanks for the reply guys. But i was also thinking, do autos work on the same principle as a manual car on decel (the rolling weight keeping the motor turning). Because if so, wouldn't it be more wise to have it in 3rd gear to say, while slowing down.
Also ive been told ya can save on fuel on a lower gear, for example: if you were in a manual going up a hill in 5th gear, you will need to apply more gas then as if you were in 3rd at half the throttle (in 5th). I hope it makes sence
Thanks

with autos, all u need to do is step on the brake pedal and the car will downshift itself on certain conditions (speed/rpm...not too sure)...i'd say it's not recommended unless u're doing an emergency brake where the engine brake would help slow the car...
i think whoever told u would be either crazy or just can't drive properly...when driving uphill on high gear, even when u floor the accelerator, most of the time the engine would lose power to push the car up (u'd see the rpm going down fast)...lower gears are best drive up a hill...
to make sense of what i said, try getting into a friend's car that is manual, go to some road that goes uphill, and ask him/her to drive the car uphill with 5th gear, then u'll know what i mean...
