Speedo not working!

Hi Guys,
I have a EG with a B series engine.
The problem im having is that speedo does not work.
I have done a search on this forum and found that its most likely the VSS.
So i located the VSS and took it off.
i unscrewed the 2 screw and lift it out and found a little metal piece came out, is this normal. There is also lil green powder on the connects which people is stating to clean it.
In one of the photo there is also another screw looking thing on the base of the VSS, should i undo that too.
Can someone please share some light.

undo the LONG 10mm headed bolt - take the entire VSS unit out of the gearbox housing.
Put it back together ~ then have alook at the contacts where the clip from the wiring loom clips on. make sure all prongs are clean and straight , and that no green powder or liquid is inside - clean it out. Put it back in and test.
If it wont work then try a known working VSS ( off a friend etc) to work out if its the VSS itself or the wiring.

Also could be a faulty ground somewhere

The key needs to be in the ON postion for some and KOEO (Key On Engine Off) for others.

ok i undid the 10mm long bolt and try to pull it out but it wont come out lol.
is it suppose to hard to pull it out. I was scared so i just left it hehehe.

rotate the unit alittle and it should pop out.
