View Full Version : Is your Integra economical?

Hi ladies and Gents,

We own a 03 Falcon BA XR6 and it's might be cheaper to give it to the wife and I buy a smaller daily driver.

I am toying with the idea of buying a CRX Gen 2 or 3 or an Integra for daily driving to and from work to save on fuel prices.

Is your Integra economical on petrol? How many liters is a tank, how much does it cost you and how long does it last for daily driving?

Any help would be good for research :P

Cheers,

Jesse.

Depends what sorta driving you do. For me driving around town and to and from work id get about 350km out of the fuel before i refill (i refill just below quarter tank to go) highway driving i can get anything up to 500km before i refill.

erm. a 1.6 or 1.8 n/a 4cyl will obviously use significantly less fuel than your xr6.

do you really need people to tell you this? its common sense.

i get about 320 for a 40 litre tank of city driving.... redline is at 8500rpm so i usually shift at about 4, if i granny shifted more id probably get 400... but who really gives a shit...

the dc2/r fuel tank is 40L

at worst i get 10L/100km or 400kms per tank (city driving)

mixed driving i get about 9-9.5L/100km or 450kms per tank

Highway its about 8L/100km or 500kms per tank

this is with 98 octane pertrol (usually caltex, sometimes mobil)

in a full tank i do a mix of city traffic and freeway tarffic always.. when my integra dc2 was stock i was to get 550-600km but i barely ever use vtec... once a put filter and exhaust on i get 450-500km out of the 40lt tank

my driving style didnt chnge or traffic conditions...
hope this helps you makes a decision

Thanks for the replies so soon, 'cept for you Mr_Will... If I baby my car I can get 11-12ltr/100km and that really being soft on it. Most of the replies here state they get about 9-10ltrs/100km which is only a litre of two less than me in city trafic. I have a larger tank and put more petrol in but we are almost chewing it at nearly the same rate... Not such a stupid question was it bro?

But thanks anyway, I am liking the integra that much more now. At least I could fit a baby seat in the back if needed.

if you're starting and stopping the integra will use a lot less fuel, your xr-tank will consume a lot of gas here, however if it's freeway driving, then you're gonna get similar results.

If you carry passengers, then you'd probably need driver + 2 passengers before you're better off in the xr.

the dc2/r fuel tank is 40L
Wrong, my manual states 50L.

I regularly get 8-8.5L/100km without trying, this includes a few good squirts. My best was from Melbourne to Adelaide, 3500-4000rpm most of the trip still gave 600km before the fuel light came on, which still allows another 50-60km.
Also bear in mind that Type R's have a lower final drive and at cruising speed will have higher rpm and therefore use more fuel.

alternatively (sorry to turn the direction of this thread) but whats ur worst???

although many factors can attribute and it's a stupid figure
but i'd still like to see what people have done

I've hit as low as 280 from a tank once (from memory)
since then i've had a few things done to the car and i think it's average/just below avg economy now in normal circumstances.

cuz everyone talks about how much they can squeeze out of a tank and no one talks about how little.

get a crx mate. its light weight makes it chew very little fuel, and it is very fun to drive you'll enjoy driving to work or where ever you wana go.

i didn't like to go to lectures before but now going to lectures is just an excuse to drive my crx

anyway if you reduce the light of the car even more (like take off the whole air con, no subs... etc) the car will perform every well.

My DC5 does about 500km's per 45Ltrs before I fill (thats mixed highway and city).

On the highway I have gotten 800km's per tank (50ltr) (cruising at 100km's).

Hi,

I wrote up a whole post on my fuel consumption. (Here: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1550511#post1550511) My driving is a mix of semi-rural / metropolitan(city) (Eltham - Wantirna South).......Using Mobil 8000 (98 Octane Premium) i get on average just above 500kms to ~42 litres. Don't forget if you have a VTEC integra/CRX you will be using premium fuel (95+) so you have to factor that into the cost too.

But of course it is going to be more efficient than a 4ltr I6. Expessially a car with little engineering and focus on both fuel and volumetric efficiency.

Don't forget to add in the costs of an extra car (Initial Purchase Price + Registration + Insurance) even just third party and rego' will probebly render the fuel savings useless expessially considering the XR6 will still be in use.

I have mates with daily drivers, and the main reason they have one is to not put "wear and tear" on their "good" car. Have you considered converting the XR6 to LPG?

Regards,
Andrew

hey guys i was driving this morning when i had an interesting thought.... the honda book says 9.0l/100km or something like that 9.3l sooo if your honda is running more km's then the factory spec, could this mean that your engine is leaning out somewhere along your fuel map? could it be that your injectors are not consistantly clean? ie injector 1 is clean, but injector 4 is a little clogged???

hehehe, and one other thing was, if i were driving the route which the previous generation walked to school it would be up-hill both ways???

my car prolly eats more petrol in 5 minutes cruisin through the backstreets (2nd/3rd gear) than a half hour cruise 2 town on a straight rd. Awesome fact.. i know! haha
ps. is it just me, or does evry1 sit in 5th gear pretty much 90% of the time, 50km/h and up? (different story in the hills obvioulsy)

No, the honda rating is just based on a test under certain conditions. This is not a real world simulation of driving styles and situations. If you do a lot of driving at 100km on a flat road without speeding up or slowing down it is inevitable you will use less fuel!

hrm for some strange reason, the past two weeks I've gotten terribly worse economy out of my dc4. Is it normal for colder days = more fuel used?

Or on a cold start, will it use much more fuel if i rev it the same amount as normal driving?

I have noticed that colder days my teg becomes more rev happy (possible that it is mainly due to intake) and I seem to reach 4-5k rpm more quickly than normal... guess that could be another factor. Or my teg is dying...

hrm for some strange reason, the past two weeks I've gotten terribly worse economy out of my dc4. Is it normal for colder days = more fuel used?

usually if you have a dead thermostat and your car refuses to get upto operating temp ecu puts out more fuel, can't remember why though...
hence why low temp thermos and fan switches have been ill-advised for daily drivers.

Remeber thats a different engine. Aussie Da's run the b18a1 which isn't an economical engine. Admittedly I need to do some maintance as my car is coming up to th 200k mark, but my other Da was the same and everyone I talk to who owns integras has the same problem.

Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia and is commonly regarded as the murder capital of Australia. This title is given to Adelaide not due to the volume of murders, but due to the clever antics of Adelaide's finest serial killers. Adelaide has more serial killers per capita than any other city in Australia. Ironically, Adelaide is the only Australian capital city NOT founded by convicts. It also has discovered the final solution to the emo problem

History of Adelaide

Happy Adelaide folk. The original occupants of the area now known as Adelaide were a bunch of nekked Aboriginal people known as the Kaurna. The Kaurna were swiftly pwned by a black hater called Colonel William Light. Colonel William Light and his merry band of men were sent forth by the good Queen to conquer new lands as far as possible from the rest of the filthy convict based cities of Australia.

City of Churches
Adelaide is also known as the City of Churches, due to the unbelievable amount of God fearing peons in the region. Around every corner is a church of some persuasion. Not surprisingly, Adelaide also has a hefty history of child paedophilia caused by hornbag priests wanting MOAR HEAD. It is also a commonly known fact that it is perfectly fine to beat and molest orphans if they reside in Adelaide church dormitories. A common misconception is that due to South Australia's high number of churches, the State is a very religious one. This is not the case. In fact, the high number of churches is a necessity in order to cope with all the funerals as a result of the high number of murders that take place in South Australia.

Edumakashun

Average Adelaide home.Adelaide children are doomed from birth. Although the occasional bright spark pops out from Adelaide, the general population are dim witted baffoons capable of only drinking beer and watching car racing. In this plethora of numb thought, the brighter students often resort to heavy marijuana usage (which Adelaide has thankfully decriminalised) in order to fit in and deal with the rest of the dumb ****s.

What Adelaide people do. Don't ask
Adelaide Culture
Adelaide people consider going to the multicultural Central Markets to be one of Adelaide's significant cultural experiences. In reality, the markets stink like decaying fish.

Arts funding in South Australia has severely decreased over the last decade and, as a result, artists have been forced to adopt a DIY mentality. Of course, we all know DIY is just a cheap excuse for fail. These artists tend to be unwashed hippies who turn up to gallery exhibitions and post-show functions for the free food, alcohol and the chance to wash their armpits in the venue's bathroom. Female artists are the worst, leaving their armpits completely unshaven and developing light moustaches on their upper lips. The annual Adelaide Fringe Festival is touted as being one of the world's premiere Fringe Festivals, but in reality it is just an excuse for foreign comedians to **** the native unshaven wimmin.

The music scene in Adelaide has, like most music scenes, been overrun with the bratty emo kids who seem to thoroughly enjoy their emotive screaming. The metal scene putters along unnoticed (as it always does) whilst the indie faps are off displaying their scarves to one another. Seriously, how long can canvas shoes last???

Adelaide Cultural Points of Interest

It's gay. Balls are touching. The Mall's Balls: Yes, somehow this city is overly proud of large metallic balls
Central Markets: Full of tasty cake and om nom nom nom.
Maslins Beach: Australia's first nudist beach and Adelaide's beacon to old nekked d00ds.
Adelaide Festival Centre: yawn.
Adelaide Centre of the Arts: full of ****tarded arts students, but some damn hawt dance students.
Fowlers Live: skeezy music venue with shithouse sound.
Crown and Anchor Hotel: goth-o-rama. Occasionally the emotards join in.
Mars Bar: local gay bar. Full of gayz and dykes wanting to **** the wrong way.
The World's End: one of the few quality pubs in town.
Barossa Valley: get ****ed up on gourmet wine.
MSY Technology: utilising Chinese labour to bring you cheap computer parts.
The Pancake Kitchen: 24hr yum yum. Plus, they stream a live webcam feed of their restaurant 24/7 so you can enjoy watching fat ****s eat their pancakes any time you want. Also a Goth hangout, who enter, consume coffee and look at you as if you're the one with the problem.
[edit] Beer

Average Adelaide girl.
Adelaide is a ****ing warzone. One of the few things Adelaide does right is beer. In particular, Coopers Beer. This tasty nectar is brewed in Adelaide and owned by the Cooper family, one of the few Adelaide families to own more than one trailer home! On the other end of town is the West End Brewery where cheap, pov **** beer is "brewed" (still impossible to differentiate between West End beer and urine). Chances are that if you are ever unfortunate enough to spend time in Adelaide you will require copious amounts of Cooper's nectar to see you through it.

, Avoid
Every city has it's ghettos. Several Adelaide suburbs to avoid like the plague:

Salisbury - WORST BY FAR, AVOID AT ALL COST. Site of the infamous Hollywood Plaza shopping centre where odds of escaping with your wallet, a will to live and without a needle stick injury are extremely slim.
Elizabeth - Full of white trash. x9000 worse than Salisbury.
Kilburn - Not only *see above* but this suburb changed its name from "Little Chicago" to Kilburn to escape the stigmata of having so many rapes and murders, more evidence of the good folk living in Adelaide.
Marleston - in the ghettoooo... Just shit.
Noarlunga - the snap pants disease is strong. FUBU and Meth Mouths as far as the eye can see.
Marion - owned by Westfield Shopping Centre. Urban banality at its best.
Pooraka - been mugged lately?
Woodville - filled with old people and teenage whores. A retirement home/ prostitot brothel.
Croydon - provides us all with the lesson that even asians and blacks can be white suburban trash.
Alberton - filled with Australian ******s much the same as aforementioned suburbs.
Unley - full of single mothers on the dole.
Ingle Farm - Ingle Farm shopping centre, the hang out of the notorious B.I.A (Brothers in Arms) Gang. Wait... who?
Para Hills - Drug and housing trust house capital of Adelaide. Also known breeding ground of the ever-growing 'RANGA' breed, all named either 'Nathan' or 'Gary'.

absolutely hate the dc4 fuel gauge... it is extremely inaccurate. I find when I am driving around and do sharp turn, the fuel gauge will always change and go back up when not moving.

Its all integras i think... i have a DC2R
edit: Actually i wouldn't say its inaccurate, i would say its too sensitive, but i mean its not like your not gonna reach flat roads unless you live in a slopey area and your driveway is on a slope :)

Anyway i get 9L/100km (average) but at worst 10.5L/100km,
i have dc2r with 40L tank.

Type S wise:

Sucks for freeway/highway; mainly m4. from penrith/st marys to/from homebush, silverwater. (or maybe needs a good service).

full tank only for me usually last roughly 450-550km per tank (9L/100km)

I thought it would have been better

Going speed limit on the freeway. I noticed the revs sit around 3.5k-4k going 100km-110km.

i did month worth of testing and what i got is 8.4L /100kms.
My integra has exaust, pod filter with vtec controller.
During the testing i would drive normal with shifting usually at around 3200rpm. I used optimax from shell petrol station.

The only result i wasnt happy with is when i went on a trip to Towong, and i drove on the freeway, average 120-125km/h, and @ that speed my revs are pretty high, 4000 rpm which i didnt like, and used about 9.8L per 100 kms which i wasnt happy about.

Aroudn the city, if driven normal, the car is excellent and has balls if needed to ;)
