So my AC needs to be re-gassed. Out of sheer curiosity, when your AC is on Hot - does it use your Gas?

Or in other words, is the fact my AC is refusing to spit out decent hot air from the vents linked to the fact I need to re-gas it?

your aircon will only need a regas if there is a leak in the system. take it to an aircon specialist and they have have a look for u

How's your coolant level?

no your hot does not use your aircon, it uses the heat from the engine.

head from the coolant bypass to be exact :)
So if aircon wont work / not there you will still get 100% heat.

Heater core or as above, coolant issue?

you only need to re-gas it when its not cooling when AC is on.
the reason why ur not getting decent hot air is because AC is ON

Thanks, you're absolutely correct. I confirmed this on the way to the gym.

Let me be the first to say that's ****en stupid. They may as well have called it the Cold button, because it's not 'conditioning' the ****en air if it just makes it cold. I'm sure I'll regret saying it when I do my non PS/AC B series conversion.

That's strange.. my car's heater seems to work when the aircon is on!
I noticed on a cold night if i put the heater with 'AC' off, then my windows fog up whereas they don't fog up when AC is on!
Maybe just a placebo :P

^ something to do with humidity or something iirc, aircon helps

using the heater, the windows initially fog up but clear after a bit
just keep blasting it :)

it mentions so in ur car manual to use the hot setting with A/C on if ur windows fog up. something to do with the gas; it reduces water vapour in the air

^^ exactly right. A/C dries the air out (which stops fogging too) which is why in summer when you park your car for a while after using the a/c, there will be a puddle of water under the car, its from the a/c.

a/c increase either heat or cold depending on what the setting is.

The AC cannot heat air, it only makes cold air (not counting the air it heats outside the car at the condensor in order to make cold air in the cabin). Hot air comes from waste engine heat and can be produced when the AC isn't even in operation. Any confusion might come from the fact that both the cabin heating and AC systems use the same air ducting system, but even so are seperate systems.

The AC is very useful for demisting, it can clear a fogged screen in seconds whether the heating system is up to temp or not. It's a good idea to use the AC occasionally (for a few minutes at a trime) during winter as it helps keep various internal components lubricated and may help reduce wear and tear and leakage (so I'm told).

You should still get 100% hot air in the hot position, even with the AC on. The temperature knob controls a flap which determines which proportion of the fan's air goes through the heater-core, and which through the AC's evaporator. In my Integra at least, either extreme of the knob results in 100% blocking off of one of the passages.

When its raining and cold, the window fogs up in my car, and i put the A/C on with a mild warmth to hot setting to get rid of the fogging up..... Also works if it purely icey cold, but since the weather is alreadi freezing you wouldn't use the cold air...something to do with the gas in the A/C that gets rid of the vapour....So yes the A/C works with Hot air still...not just cold.

Fogging up occurs when you have a surface considerably colder than the air in contact with it. Blowing hot-air heats up the surface, and blowing cold air cools down the aiir. It is thus obvious why the cold works much faster, and that it has nothing to do with the gas used in the system :)

I need to regas my ac as well since it doesnt get cool, and summer is coming up.

But how much would I be looking at for a re-gas?

If its too much ill probably just take it out, light weight ftw :)
