Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of getting a Hondata s300 on by B16A2 EK1 with full exhaust system and air intake. Once tuned how much difference in power would there be? I just wana know if its worth the money.

a stand alone ecu is always worth the money......thas my opinion anyways

If you had a few more engine mods I suppose.
For now probably no point.

yo, you the guy that was at willowbank on wednesday, Hondata definatly worth it, but why the s300? what type of application you going to need that for? If you just want a nice basic tune with basic bolt ons, you would probably travel as far as the s200, and save you some money and still get same result. Just depends on what type of setup you have / planning to have

your very true............but why go s200 when for an extra $50 you get s300

if you wanna be budget and just tune without fetures, just get s100

True, I was under the impression that the s1 and s2 are more closely priced, and that the s3 was the big jump.. guess not, will have look at prices now :P

yeah that was me, but I had a shit day. :( it was my first time there and I thought I try my luck with my normal tyres. Well that was a bad idea. So will be back once I fix up a few things and the rain stops.

So to get some more power out of my engine and before I get a new ECU what would be the best mod to do??

s300 really isnt necessary for your application buddy.wasting money

id recommend you go the hondata s200

the difference in power from putting the ecu in will depend on the mods you have done,a stand alone ecu and tune allows you to adjust things to get the best gain from the mods you have done.

for instance, you will only get slight gains from tuning with the only mods being exhaust and intake, but if you were to change cams etc. etc. then the ecu is pretty much a must to allow you get full advantage of the more aggressive cams

Well i'm thinking either s100 or s300. Really haven't got a qlue which would be better for my setup.

fair enough, my first night too, and was quite happy with best time I ran and on street tyres :P

for good gains, recommend quality mods, top range stuff will never let you down

Yeah that's what barefoot said too. All the stuff I have done for now has been good high quality stuff. So that's how it's gona stay. I just need a bit of help with direction on what mod to do next.

next mod choices-

- suspension if you havnt done anything to that.shocks and springs if on a budget or coilovers if you got the coin.and a rear swaybar and asr brace.

- 4.7 final drive ratio, reduces your top speed (your never gona get to top speed anyway really) and makes your revs sit higher on the highway etc.....but its the cheapest way to gain torque and acceleration.

- cams and ecu,i recommend hondata s200, and type r cams are good bang for buck.....(s100 ecu is very restrictive in who can tune it,as i found out, s200 you can plug any laptop into)

i agree with the 4.7 FD brendan , I cant wait to do mine and see the difference

also what he didnt mention, i lighter flywheel does help out alot and it isnt that expensive as other mods that would give you similar gains

S200 is the same as the S100,u still need chip burner, romultor, etc to tune it.

S200 is rather redundant now with the S300 being available.

At the end of the day,u'll pay about $400 more going from S100 to S300,if u plan on doing heaps of mods & tuning after every mod then go the S300,as its slightly easier & faster to tune,so u'll get the $400 back.

If you do the gbox might as well get a better clutch & lighten flywheel while your there, same price for labour.

The ECU is only as good as the tuner. You will always make abit more power with the aftermarket ECU, as the factory ECU is designed to be conservative, for the slight differences in different engines.

How much you make will depend on the amount of mods and condition of your engine.

If i were you i would run the stock ECU and wait until you have more mods before changing ECUs. That way you only pay once for the tune, instead of retuning for each new mod you do.

s300 ftw thats speaking from experience.... s100 and s200 yu will end up paying more then what you spend on the s300 because you will need to pay alot more to retune then with the s300 because with the s300 its as simple as pluging it into the laptop and the software is free...

next mods= cams+cam gears+s300 tuned+ 4.9 final drive

that would equal one little street machine b16a
