Is it illegal to change your light inside the car?
you know the one that lights up when your door is open.
Because i saw a mate he changed his one to a white light and looks really cool.
But i dont want to risk just a minor thing if its illegal.
any info on it? :)
Thank you in advance.

its technically illegal to change ANY part of your car...only rectified by it being "engineered" to current ADR's.
ITs a minor thing and most police wont pick up on it.

changing the interior light to white LEDs will not void any of the ADRs on a vehicle. because the light is only on when the doors are open it is not a problem...
if u got a cop who tried to defect u for that, it wouldnt be because its white, itd be because u did something that really really pissed him off and he couldnt get you for anything else...

even if it was blue/yellow or wateva i dont think u'll get defected, i dont think cops bother with interior lighting ... my dome light doesnt even work ROFL
imagine getting defected for that ><" how stupid would it be...

guys you can and will get defected for interior lighting. But the chance of it happening are very very remote.

in most cases when you get pulled over you normally stay in your car which means your doors are closed and your lights will be off. So the chances of getting caught and defected for it is slim.

i dont kno about the details n laws elsewhere but in adelaide, this is from what i was told by a roadcop, apparently, as long as the light does not impede with other drivers ie, shine out the windows into others attention it is not gna be illegal, i mean it all gets pretty technical but at the end of the day, even if u get done 4 somethin stupid like that all they'll ask u 2 do is prolly take the bulb out on the spot, theyd hav 2 b real jerks 2 actually fine u 4 it.

How about "not true" or "incorrect" instead of a stupid reply
Any links to RTA or police documents that might help this guy out then ?

as long as its not blue or red, then it doesnt matter.
and being white, its pretty close to being a stock colour

Sure
Vehicle Standards Information 6
Do I need an engineering signatory for minor modifications?
Vehicle modifications fall into three distinct categories:
- ‘Owner certified’ minor modifications which can be accepted for registration purposes without formal
certification.....
Examples of minor (owner certified) modifications are:
- Engine changes where the capacity increase is less than 15% above the maximum size engine available for the
vehicle .........
- Additional lighting eg fog & driving lights.
And even one for everyone on ozhonda
-Fitting of handling enhancing suspension components such as roll stabiliser bars and up-rated shock absorbers.

i say just do it.....like some one already said, the cop must be in a pretty bad mood to get you for having white lights, i have white leds as my parkers and on the number plate lights and to be honest i dont think cops care about them...there more busy looking for other mods lik BIG rims and exhaust etc etc
