My car is a 03 Lux Auto with 115km on the clock. The jerkiness only occurs when I accelerate lightly at aroung 40 - 60 kph (cant afford a heavy foot with petrol prices these days :). Ive noticed that If I accelerate harder or run the car in manual mode I dont experience the jerkiness. Car runs great at all other speeds and on deceleration. Any idea what could be causing this? time for an auto transmission oil change?

did you own the car since new? or recently changed the petrol?
Any changes can cause the jerking...

No..I'm the 2nd owner...had the car for a year, my wife drives it mostly, she fills up with Caltex premium, ...I will try a higher octane fuel to see if it improves...thanks

I would seriously change the automatic transmission fluid. Especially since your car is at 115k.

I haven't replaced the AT fluid before but would like to DIY..... what oil to use? any tips on how to do do this?

^ do you not service it at a mechanics?
If you are DIY just use Honda automatic transmission fluid.
And giving it a thrashing once in a while won't hurt, instead of always granny driving round town.

Use only Honda auto transmission fluid. Don't use anything else.

You need
-trolley jack
-jackstands
-3/8 ratchet
-10mm socket-ratchet & flathead screwdriver (to remove undertray)
-hose and funnel

No tips other than not to go under the car without jackstands. If you haven't done an oil change on your own before, then leave the ATF to the dealer/mechanics.

^ and a hammer =p in case that nut is on tight, just simple taps not full power like you're driving a nail into a wall

Rubber mallet is best. I've tried comparing a metal hammer and rubber mallet, and for some reason, the rubber mallet will get tight bolts off where the metal hammer has failed.

lol, I don't usually touch my hammer anymore, no more CRV diff bolts to drain anymore =[

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say its the TPS.....

Ive seen it happen before, a guy was saying his car was jerky when he went through school zones (40kph), replaced TPS (well, throttle body assy as TPS isnt avail separately OEM), problem fixed.

Was his car an auto or manual?

you lose your limb, i'll take your arm now. joking....

any modifications done?
what fuel are you running? caltex premium, try give BP ultimate for one tank and see if it makes a difference.
what oil are you using?
possibility of transmission fluid needs a change also, over 115k mileage should change transsie fluid as aaron has said.
each can play a part of jerkyness.

how much a TPS cost?

Might not be the TPS unless they measured the voltage and got actual problems inducing the jerkiness. It could have been that the old TB was gummed with dirt and the new TB was clean and smooth.

Hey mate,
I had the same problem @ 60,000kms. I have had to replace the accel cable motor, and picked up some Acura Tsx throttle bodies off US Ebay. A fault code was registering, and Honda advised what I needed to do. Hope this helps.

Finally got round to replacing the ATF this weekend as using highest rated fuel didn't help......couldn't get the tranny drain bold off using brute force but tap tap tap with a rubber mallet as Aarong suggested, and off it came. Dead easy to replace the ATF and low and behold no more jerkiness any longer on the test runs I did. I hope thats it!....decided to change the engine oil the next day so the car is now running ever so smoothly....thanks guys for your help!:D

Good to hear you have fixed your problem. I always recommend autobox owners to change ATF every 2 years with proper Honda ATF. The service manual's 5 year is too long!

My car is booked in for its 30k service this week. If I was to give the service department a call to have the AT fluid changed during the service what would be a reasonable cost for getting that done?

Also, am I better off having the service dept do a wheel alignment for me or take it to a bob jane etc?

Its either the TPS or the Idle speed motor or control valve. My gf's fto had the same problem down at low speeds. Looked like a real dick when going through shopping centres looking for a park!

I think an ATF change is about $80-100 at a dodgy place like Ultratune. Call up for a quote I'd say.

For wheel alignment, I'd bring it to Bob Jane unless the dealer does it at cost. Dealers don't usually have computerised laser alignment and instead send the car out the nearby tyre shop.

Gave the Honda service centre a call. $150 for an ATF change - OUCH. How much is the fluid and how many litres is required?

I can't remember off the top of my head, because mine is a manual. Try asking maskitoe since he just changed his. ATF.
