Hi, my mate just bought a Euro, I took it for a drive, it feels great. But i just noticed one thing difference compare to my old civic vti-r and my current ride s2k..... when i rev it all the way to 7000rpm and change it to 2nd gear, the rev drops to around 4000+ rpm which means it needs to wait for the v-tec to kick in again which is around 5800......
Compare to my older civic, i can always hold it in the v-tec area everytime i change gear. Do you guys reckon changing the ECU like spoon or Mugen (which push the red line further and hence after the drop in rev it's still gonna be 5000+) may help to eliminate the "waiting period" when we upshift? thanks for the help
Joe

mind you, just installing spoon ECU and bumping the redline further with stock internals will do no good to your engine.

plus (correct me if I'm wrong) the Euro's K24 engine wasn't designed for racing, but its more to comfort and luxury than all out power. (completely different design to type R's K20 engines)

Spoon's 11K RPM EK9 also has a fully built internal. and they still encounter problem with the engine after the second lap I think.

any idea about the VAFC can help fixing this issue? it seems that the vtec point cant be moved that much forward?

VAFC, UNICHIP, V-manage, BC VTEC controller can all adjust the VTEC point.

but when you lowering it down too much, you will lose power. and I believe vice versa.

in some cases. even if you can revved it up till say 10K (from adjustment), but the engine's design is max till 8.5K (to produce the max horsepower). the power will start dropping after 8.5K (reading from the dyno)

Also keep in mind that although vtec might not kick in till 6000, vtc kicks in at around 3000-4000 depending on conditions so that it gives a little kick too.

Well put it in simple way. Euro is not S2000 or even Civic Type R. Its engine not designed for racing purpose. Moreover Euro is a family car and designed for comfort ride. I experienced the same too when I rev all the way to 7100rpm and change gear and it drops to somewhere above 4000rpm. Euro's performance quite adequate for everyday driving.

He could always get a Jtune mild tune retune to lower vtec to 5000rpm or the full kit to 3250rpm(or somewhere around that). *laughs to self* Good luck with that.

as said above - jtune lowers vtec point to 5000... on changing gears at 7300-7400rpm, your next gear should engage around 5200-5300rpm... so you shouldnt drop out of vtec.

find out what speed you need to be in to stay in vtec...
drive in second gear and note the speed that vtec enagages.
so that's roughly the speed you should shift at when redlining first gear i guess...:)

Don't need vtec... Euro's engine makes more torque at 4500rpm than at 6500rpm. If the gear ratios are the same on 2 cars, then isn't it better to be able to stay in 2nd gear for longer than the other car which would have to upshift into 3rd gear? More work is done in the given amount of time.

vtec isn't everything - owner of a dc4

icic.. apparently there is not much we can do about that. Btw, for the information, the car got a full exhaust and injen air intake, which makes the v-tec drops out quite obviously.... it feels like power cut lol

Just minor mods. Probably the Injen exaggerating the feeling of lost torque at 4000rpm?

that's exactly what i am trying to say.... coz of the "exaggerating" makes the feeling even worse. haha

why nots grab a dc5r gbox? =]

isnt it just "plug n play" with the k24 bottom end.
or is the bell housing different?

having long gears is the reason why you drop out of vtec, compared to your civic while you shift, but as said above, pushing the red line up with stock springs will not agree with your engine
