View Full Version : Next car, After S2000?

this question has been looming over me for the past couple of days.

what car to buy next after the S2000. Although its not the quickest car around i would have to say its been the most fun to drive. Excellent handling, drop top, and stunning to look at. Overall a very good package if you dont mind only have a 2 seater. Personally i find it will be difficult to find a car to replace the S.

Candidates on the list i have considered would be

2005+ 350Z
2002+ E46 M3
1999-2000 R34 GTR

So the question is which car have you considered replacing the S2000 with...

buy a integra with a jdmfront for 23k

Depends on what you want out of a car. IMO each of the three you have mentioned meet particular criteria (ie if you want to take more than one extra person in the car go for the M3, compared to if you want a two seater that is more modern go the Z etc).

My pick would be a 98+ NSX-T.

definately go with R34, to me the modification are quite expensive
if not engine modif, what else could it be

buying 2002+ bmw M3, its like those peoples that like driving 2000 model BMw with chromies wheel, even if its m3, i rather get new face bmW

and i think skyline v35 are more popular than 350z thse day, i m not sure but
i reckon modified V35 looks better than 350z

This thread isnt about me. Im interested to see what you guys have thought of moving onto next from the s2000.

When i buy a car i have a couple of criteria that it must satisy. One of which is something which i can drive day in day out without many hassles. Thats why i like hondas, due to the fact of reliability day in day out.

The R34 GTR is tough and definately something id love to own and with their price dropping its becoming more enticing to do so. But soaring petrol prices sorta killing it, also doesnt seem as good a daily as the other 2 options i have mentioned. But hey, thats just me.

honestly since im only on red p's i have no regrets getting the s2k and i dont think i can let it go its just too much of a nice drive , if i was planning to get another car it would be a 350z

R34 GTR, with full exhaust from turbo, air filters, a nice sound system, 19inch wheels, coilovers! and a apexi power FC ecu tuned! upgrade clutch.
50k budget..im sure you can fit right under it. running 1bar of boost, be near the 230kw mark, easy 12 second car.

of course. you can probably find a 99 model R34 GTR for 40k or so these days. Thing is i wouldnt consider it a car you could commute in daily.

Why after the F355?

I love the F355, If I buy a Ferrari it will be a F355, in something subtle like Le Mans Blue with a black or tan interior...It will be a Berlinetta too and definitely manual! I will then proceed to never drive it and just rev it up to 8k in my garage and listen to that exhaust note...

LOL

Realistically I have also been thinking about the rx7 series8...reliability/running costs are ruining that dream...plus the interior is crap

I've moved towards a series 2 elise, 02-onwards as a weekend/track day car...That's my aim at the end of the year anyways.

hey FLY stick to honda man.. lol.. but u are right it is pretty hard to find a car to replace the s2000.. so far to me the cars has been great to drive..

i enjoy getting in it and driving it to 9000RPM and getting out of it.. everytime..

though i believe the next best thing in line would be the nsx.. but again i think theres something not right about that car too.. it dosent have the same tough look as the s2000...

i mean the s2000 is in a class of its own.. its look fierce but class at the same time.. compare to the nsx.. its got nothing on the s2000.. the drop top versus the hard top or targa..?? which one would you choose??

so for now ive decided to just stick to the s2000..

If I had the money to replace the S it would be either a NSX-R or a lotus Exige, the GTR is quick but its not my taste.

You can always replace the S, but nothing will replace the feelings it gives you.

Have you considered a car to use daily and keep the S in the garage?

ludecrs
02-06-2008, 07:48 PM
It had no feel in the wheel.

If I'm driving a car, I like to be able to get feedback from the cars movements, the E46 M3 didn't do that for me.

I also disliked the EU layout of everything being back to front - reminded me of a Holden Calibra haha.
I repeatedly went to hit indicators and got wiper blades hahaha, and had to stop and think about it when doing it, but this you'd get used to after a week of ownership I guess.

I was always hoping to go S2k -> NSX -> M3 -> F355.... but I'm not a baller.

Ferrari
02-06-2008, 08:23 PM
I included the F355 in my dream car lineup. I have had the pleasure of working on the 360 and the F355. The F355 is a peice of shit compared to the F360 in build quality.

S2000 is better built. In saying that the F355 is my fav looking car and has the best sound with a mille migla or tubi exhaust. 360 is amazing in build, I cant imagine how much better the F430 is. I just think the F355 looks better and is more raw.

ROLLED
02-06-2008, 11:20 PM
I agree with the lack of quality in the F355, but if you want quality, get a corolla hahahha jk

I also agree with ludecrs with the M3 though, awesome response from those ITBs, but the manual gearbox is crap for that kind of car...and lack of steering feedback is annoying too. I'm not a fan of the exhaust note either...

The GT-R is awesome though, the power and drivability amazes you! It's just stupidly-easy to drive fast through the twisties...

But I think everyone is aware of the alternatives, you just need to get out and drive each one before you can pass any judgment on it!

i wonder whos buying fresh new s2000 for 70k+,
even if you scroll down through carsales website, look for 2nd with 2005 up year model, i dont think there is

i still look around for second car, im also not sure what car to buy either
,i checked for early s2k, but the Kilometres are so high, around 80-100k or up
is it worth it? gearbox, engine, and leather seat are main problem right?

80 k on a well looked after S2k is not bad at all. I got mine with 25k and Im on 70k now and there is no difference to the way it performs. mileage on this car just depends on the condition rather than anything else...my car pulls as hard as my friends 99 s2k with 25,000kms, last time we went up this hill my car was pulling on his! mines got 111,000kms now...

A clutch chnage on a 360 almost $10000, and the clutch on a F1 tranny is lucky to last 10000km in daily driving conditions. People under estimate the cost of maintaining them big time.

Im actually getting a Evo...couldnt agree more with the interior, however performance wise, Evo's arent that quick out of the box however respond extremely well to bolt ons, unlike N/A's. Simple bolt ons on the 4g63 can net up to 260awkws and a bucket load of torque for a cost less then 4k. :D

Was contemplating the same kit but decided to sell my rig instead.

Just out of interest, I know you can comfortable get around the 240rkws out of that supercharger kit on a 10psi pulley, any idea on torque figures as the ol f20c seems to be lacking in that department.

Yup, plumb back. I did it to reduce the 'ricer mating call' but it's still pretty loud.

USDM or other?

I'm only going to ~9psi. After 9-10 psi, it requires internals and stuff, and I don't really think I want to go that far.

Being centrifugal, the car runs like normal until the revs build higher and higher. My fuel consumption hasn't dropped at all, but then again I've been babying it everywhere for a week, at no more than 5K.

I just sold my S2K (few weeks ago) so I decided to stick with honda so I''ll be getting EP3, was thinking about EVO 8 MR but decided to have something cheaper but something that's gonna be fun and not expensive to maintain, and that's what R stands for hehe

Now if I was gonna spend more $$$$ I would go for E46M3, get KW coilovers, CSL air intake and agencypower exhaust, car get just sick with exotic sound.

350Z wouldn't be upgrade, R34 is good but i think their price will drope even more once R35 GTR hits nissan dealerships in OZ

Well I work away from home (work for around 4 weeks than get 10 days off) and my S2K was just being parked in garage, so that was $30K+ just not being used and seating there, so i decided to go for something a bit cheaper but still fun and should hold price better than some other cars so I opted to try and get EP3 imported (plus I always wanted one of those), use to have DC2R and Rs just suit me hehe, anyway apart from that S2Ks are pretty expansive to mod so that sort of put me off a bit as well, but I realy loved the car.

I sold it for $33500, it was 01 model with 67000km, I should get EP3 for around $23K so yeah $10K more to invest and try to make some more $$$$ hehe

yeah evo's are mad hot.

8/9 are teh sex....6.5 is hot but a bit dated.

They can be tuned straight off the bat too, and gain a fair chunk of mid range and top end when stock.

Thanks guys!
Yeah might even be geting a evo 8 now, can get one for the same price as a 7. Have a mate that imports them.:D

Was looking at a r34 gtr, but slightly out of my price range as I will also be buying a wakeboarding boat in the next few weeks :p

As for property was looking at investing in a house or club but I thought I have a bit more fun first before I settle down:cool:

Y::.;1726028']This thread isnt about me.

I've driven my R34GTR almost daily now for the past three years and loving it. With the right clutch set up and some light power upgrade, it's very easy to drive in town. The only downside is that it's fairly heavy on fuel, especially as I'm pretty heavy on the throttle! lol
I use the S2000 sparringly, mainly for a bit of roof down fun and the sound of that vtec kicking in.

You do realise you could put some track wheels on one of your existing cars and 'trash' (did you mean 'thrash') it.

Evo and STi, good track cars piss easy to do good times so you cant look noob lol.

not really,

if you have a look on carsales, there are guys asking 40k-45k for 91 model automatics with over or close to 200,000kms on the clock. Nico's one is Manual with way less kms than that. Its a decent buy imo...

Why would you spend 50K on a 91 NSX, when you can spend $70K on a 98 50th Anniversary Edition one.....

91 / 92 imports I've seen as cheap as 34K.

You're buying a 15yr old car......
