I'm wanting to throw in a H22A in my 94 CD5 Vti. I've been told it's a straight swap-over requiring minimal mods and using the same mounts. Just some newb questions...

What other components will I need?

Can the same harness be used?

How much should I be paying for the engine? It's from a 92 jdm prelude.

How much for labor? I was quoted 1000-1500.

Thanks.

wouldn't you have to get a 94 or up h22a because its illegal to get an engine that has a lower year model then year cars year model?

and with the labour, I'm not sure how much but shop around first, get a good price then go with them. :D

As above it is illegal to place an older engine into a newer vehicle chassis.

I'm also unsure on the labour =\ but i'm sure someone who has done the conversion will hop by soon and give you exact figures BUT 1000-1500 sounds above average :)

don't forget to have a bit of money on the side as a buffer/'just incase'

if your going to do this conversion you really wana upgrade to the prelude running gear

driveshafts
mounts
brakes possibly

and if you have an auto CD5 you will need to do 1 part of welding on the transmission side

heres a link with basically a full tutorial on the F22B to H22A conversion
possibly the best link on the net to date....

im also thinking about doing this conversion, keep us posted if your making the move :thumbsup:

hope it helps

You need an engine from a car NEWER than your 94. So look for a 94 (not sure about month) or newer engine.

I called up RTA but they kept me on hold for 40 minutes so I hung up.

I called some local garages and they all had the same response...

'An older engine can be placed in a newer chassis, just give Vicroads the engine number and nothing else. They won't know.'

Still a bit iffy though...

well if the newer engines emission control devices didnt change, than it should be sweet

woulndt the rego office be like "wait up, that engine number is listed as this age, and the car is this age, thats not right"

but you can put any engine in any car as long as you can make it meet emisions
