hey
Im just abit confused about engine model numbers.
For example i have a B18c2, what does the '2' mean as i have seen some that are just titled b18c and B18c1
Another example is the B16a and B16b what is the difference and where they come from?
If someone has some kinda of table that lists all the models, engines and where they come from that would be great :)
cheers

I don't think this info is 100% accurate...
for instance the AUDM DC2R started in 99 right?
1996 is the JDM DC2R...
B18C2 - Vti-R (dohc vtec)
B18C1 - GSi (non-vtec) i think
No idea what the SiR-G is.

b18c2 vtir motors from 93-98
b18c is japanese motor. whether it be a SiR or TypeR you have to look at the rest of the numbers
b18c7 is the australian model type R
b18c5 is the type R motor in the states..

excellent post CRXer.
just couple of questions:
my crx has an engine conversion with B16A 5012xxx, does that mean it's the early jap spec 158hp engine? and can I tell what year and what car that came out of originally?
as for the B18C JDM, how could we tell if it's a type R engine or otherwise from the eng number alone?

Yes,u have jap spec motor.
It could of come out of integra, crx or civic only honda could maybe track down its origin.U might find some date stamps on parts of the engine, but that will only tell u when each part was manufactured, might give u a rough indication.
B18C typeR will have PR3 stamped on the cylinder head
B18C Si will have P72 stamped on the head.
