Ok, heres the story. Bought a head unit, it works tested on battery.
But when i go to connect the power and constant wires the deck doesnt turn on.
When connecting it together it turns on.
Dont know much about audio's just wondering why it doesnt work wen connecting it up normally.

Thanks.

ok now we're gettin somewhere.

Try reversing the wires

Is this in a DC2? r u connecting to the stock wires?

xtat1k

nah, its in 94 accord and i think its stock wires. it did previously have a head deck in there but it wasnt mp3 so im just changing it.
clock fuse was busted but was replaced.
could there be any other fuses?

It just doesnt sound like stock honda colours u are connecting to.

Constant power is usually a white/? wire

Ignition power is usually a yellow/? wire or white/? wire.

Have u got a multimeter?

There are 2 fuses ,the one for the constant power is in the engine bay fuse box,the one for the ignition power is under the dash

Take a pic of the wires

Oh, then i guess its not stock honda wires.
No multimeter, its not needed.
I'll check the other fuse under dash tomorrow.
Thanks CRXer, always helping me out.

had similar problem in the EK
the the fuse for the headunit blew .. constant power going to the headunit
the headunit fuse for the EK is in the engine bay fuse box. dont know about other cars.

Every DIYer needs a multi, especially when u can get em for about $15

Easy man,

-Turn it onto volts DC,turn off the key, fully off
-touch one probe on metal/chasis somewhere or black wire.
-touch the other probe on all the wires till u get one that reads 12V,thats your constant power.
-Then turn key to accessories, find the wire that now reads 12V that didnt before, thats ur ignition power.
-turn headlights on,find the wire that now reads 12V that didnt before, thats your illumination wire.
-all the rest are speakers, antenna etc(let me know if u want to know how to identify them)

Same problem I had, the fix for this is to change the accessory fuse under your bonnet. i thought the solution was to bridge both the red and yellow however this doesn't allow you to save ur time setting etc. and ur clock goes mental.

check ur fuse under the bonnet. replace it.

What if i touched all the wires while the cars off and nothing goes to 12V.
I'ved tested it on the battery and thats reading 12V.

Then u need to check the fuses in your engine bay fusebox.Prob be a 7.5A or 10A fuse.

Touch your multi on the top of the fuse(the little metal bit that sticks out) on both sides of each fuse, the one that doesnt read 12V on both sides is the blown one, change it.

If u dont find a blown fuse, then the wire is broken somewhere.
There might even be a fuse located where the headunit wiring is,check behind there as well

Ok, changed the fuses like 3 times.
My friend said there should be a wiring problem his going to check it out for me sometime during the week so i'll let you know what the problem was.

So i assume the fuse blew 3 times, everytime u put a new one in?

If so,put your multi on "ohms",touch one side to ground/chassis & touch the other probe to the side of the fuse that DOESNT read 12V.

If it shows very low ohms,ie 1-5ohms,u have a short to ground on that wire,ie its touching metal somewhere.Find where its shorting & tape it up.

EDIT: oh & make sure the copper isnt damaged to bad inside the wire,ie broken strands.if so just cut it and rejoin it cleanly.
