Hi All.

Just need a hand on this. My air con doesnt feel cold at all even on maximum. this car is 2004 only and driven 68xxx.

previous owner says he never use aircon at all since day one he bought the car due to his sensitive nose. could that have caused the problem?

i brought it in to one shop to check it out. he reckons its not regas issue. More like the air con compressor need to be replace. Gonna cost me approximately parts and labour $1400 - 1650.

is this rite? i can't believe such a relatively new car would need to replace a part that expensive.

Any thoughts out there??

haha welcome to the world of ridiculous pricing.

u went to honda for that quote?

Basically, as far as im aware, all aircon systems should be run for 10minutes at least once a month. This is because no use can cause hardening and subsequent failure of the seals. (as said in haynes).

So basically, going off that i dont think its ur compressor, Theres a few ways u can check it.
Wouldnt be a bad idea getting a regas, is quite inexpensive and might solve ur problem.

aircons are far more complex than meets the eye, and far more expensive because of it.

Have it re-gassed. They'll soon tell you if anything else needs replacing.

I had same problem with the Air Con. and had to replace the compresser.

I had a quote from honda for about 2000.oo:eek:

I bought a second hand compressor from a wrecker for $ 200.00 and had it fitted by my local mechanic at cot of $ 200.00.

Hope you can find a second hand compressor.

Good Luck:thumbsup:

i know that if you dont use your aircon for a long time the seals and stuff start to dry out causing the aircon to be inefficient....may be this could be the cause?....how come the compressor stuff's up so easily?

When we took out the old compressor from my car we found that the mechanisem that engages the compressor when we turn the AC on had failed. It is hard to explain but I will try,

What heppened was. The compressor has the regular pully and the there is another rounde plate just on the ourside of the pully which stays still when AC is off but as soon as we turn it on the pate outside of the pully snaps shut on the pully to start rotating and the compressor swings in action and usually what happens if the compressor is too tight it puts extra presure on the plate and it just snaps.

Regular use of AC is the most economical way to avoid this from happening.

Cheers

might be why they have auto A/C on when you switch any fan functions on.

had the same problem with a maxima a few years back. for simplicity and comforts sake now, I just have 24 degrees on all the time. You get used to it after a while.

I have the problem with air con too. It was working fine after I drove it about 20 mins then suddenly it plumbing warm air and a min later the air is same temp as outside (30deg). would it be the compressor problem? I booked air con specialist to check it tonight. how much to fix it? Thanks

The cheapest option now is to regas the aircon with a dye, if there is a leak, the dye will stain the line/s where there is a leak.

Aircon are now smaller in Japanese cars due to the need for weight and space efficiency. Normally, the air con will lose it's gas over 5 years due to minor leaks. No matter how carefully you use the car, unlike a regular house fridge where it has no rubber to metal connection because it doesn't move where as a car will have joints to allow flexing from movement, there will always be a leak due as the car twists and bend when you are driving.

If no leakage is found, then like everyone said, it could be the compressor failing on you.

Thanks all of you give me idea and commends. The guy come to check my a/c gas, compressor and hoses. all ok. Then he check the switches and he found that is the elect. circuit on power. and he try to remove the a/c fuse and check is ok and then swape with other fuse. Then the a/c work ok. he said should be the fuse contact is loose. The guy show me how he check each parts and no charge to me. I fully recommened this guy, very friendly, Mark - AGM auto air conditioning (Perth). I haven't try it long, but it looks fine and cold now. Am I the lucky or unlucky one? :) Thanks
