View Full Version : Next step after I/H/E
Hi, I have a b18c (sir-g engine) with a full exhaust, x force headers, short ram intake, heavy duty clutch and VAFC-II. I'm going to redo the exhaust again, since its way too loud and ricey to me. After that I'm going to get the VAFC II re tuned. I thought if I was going to re tune, I might as well install cams? What would the next step that yields good power for the cost??
Could I get other peoples opinion on the next mods, the costs involved and the amount of power gained. This is in a DC2 integra. Don't really want to go turbo since it costs too much (engineering, bigger brakes, engine reliability with stock internals, insurance)
thanks

Sell the VAFC and get into HONDATA. You will get a much better result and your engine will perform much better!

don't think the VAFC is enough to tune for cams
besides you don't just throw in cams cuz ur getting a tune
VAFC tune = 300ish???
cams alone are like more than that + all the other parts to allow ur engine to run them without blowing + labor = way not worth
imo cams = least value for money when it comes to mods. ya only do it wen u've done everything and want more rpm.

Gte rid of the VAFC, go get a Power FC, or a Hondata ECU. Tune it with that, after you install new parts - as it's exxy to keep retuning.
I would get a light weight fly wheel. Depends what you really want out of the car. Power, response, handling.. .what do you want?
I'd defiatenly look into a nice set of coilovers.
There a bit to think about when you installing aftermarket cams. Valve springs, cam gears, retainers... port polish, all depends on how far you want to go. Generally, if you are going to streghten the head and want to have more power and rev higher, you'll need to do bottom end. Rather leave the egnine stock for now... get some bolt ons, and work on handling / response.

v-afc does the job ok. Unless you want to gain max power out of those bolt-ons i wouldn't waste anymore money. If your looking for more power then I would look into better headers, tri-y designs are affordable. As for intake, the b18c generally likes the CAI as opposed to the SRI. Since your gonna fix your exhaust go for a 2.5' mandrel bent system. After all these then consider a tunable ECU. Try looking into crome. There cheap as does the same job as hondata and power fc.

get rid off the stupid b18c intake manifold design and get a skunk2 one with a larger tb
then retune vafc

yeah skunk2 intake manifold and add direct port nitrous.
2nd hand skunk 2 manifold or equiv $300
direct port nitrous $1000. but each fill can cost from $80-$150 depending where you go.

lol @ nitrous.
It's not a mod many people are interested in,especially for a daily.
nah I don't think I want to get rid of the two length runners on the intake manifold, if I went with a single runner intake manifold I would lose the low-midrange power and torque. It is a daily driver and not a track car.
Cams, turbo and NOS are out of the budget for now. I won't change ecu just for a measly few hp. I will just make the car as light as possible.
thanks for the advice

like dc5.taiger said, get a lighten Fly. maybe even get a 4.7 fd type r gear box at the same time to save on labour
