ok guys,
my car has been in an accident and i can't open the bonnet. Its going to the panel beaters this week but when i went to start it up this morning, it wouldn't start. i hadn't driven it for about a week n realised the battery probably got drained. So i went to jump and that didn't work either. i had driven my car for a couple of days after the accident and there was nothing wrong, it worked like normal.

so im pretty sure i got a flat but also, when i tried to jump start, it didn't even turn over, there is just a clicking sound. on the dash, one of the lights came on, if someone can link me to a pic of an ek dash, i will point out which light, but im pretty sure it comes on when ur just about to start the car anyway. when this light comes on, there is also a steading beeping sound, about every second. anyone have any kind of idea of what could be the problem?

p.s. i could get to the battery to jump start as the is a gap at the side at the bonnet is in a small triange shape.

Get a mech to check the alternator. Usually when the car doesn't start, it is because the alternator is not recharging the battery. Once the battery is drained the car will die and not be able to restart. The clicking noise you are hearing is the starter relay attempting to connect the battery to the starter. Since your battery is dead, the relay can't stay closed to supply the power to the starter, so it opens, causing the clicking sound. If it turns out that the alternator is bad, you will need to have it replaced, then recharge the battery.

Good luck.

but the thing is, i can't open the bonnet so i can't even get anywhere lol. even if the alternator was dead, shouldn't i be able to jump start it atleast?

If the old battery were fully discharged it's possible that you would not be able to jump-start the car. This is especially true if you are using a low-dollar set of jumper cables. (The cables are not able to pass enough current to start the car)

It's unlikely that the battery and the alternator died at the same time. Try getting a new battery and try it again... hrmms with the bonnet issue sorry i can't help with that....

How do I recharge your car’s battery...

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

# Jumper cables with positive and negative terminals
# Spanner
# Car with a flat / discharged battery
# Car with a charged battery

TIPS

# Before attempting to charge a battery, find out whether the process is achievable on your car or you may damage your car by blowing up your battery.
# Always remember to stop at a petrol station for a water and battery fluid check up.

PROCEDURE

1. Ensure that both cars are switched off before attaching operating jumper cables.

2. Place the one end of the positive cable onto the positive node of the discharged battery.

3. Place the other end of the positive cable onto the positive terminal of the booster battery.

4. Place the one end of the negative terminal onto the negative of the booster.

5. Place the one end of the negative terminal onto the car’s chassis to avoid too much power travelling to the discharged battery, which may cause an overload, resulting in an explosion.

6. Start the car with the booster battery and idle for a while to transfer the current.

7. Reverse the process by removing the one end of the negative terminal off the car chassis.

8. Remove the other end off the battery.

9. Remove the one end of the positive terminal off the battery.

10. Remove the other end of the negative terminal off the booster battery.

11. Check that the battery is charged by starting the car.

lol it's weird because indicates that battery needs to be charged.. i.e red colour indicator.. but then uhhhhh.. car still starts. so i guess i'll just leave it for longer see what happens.. then if not just replace.

ok,
so i tried to jump it again using different cables but nothing. the MIL light comes on but i think its normal for it to come on before the engine cranks. However, my engine doesn't turnover. There is a ticking sound and then a another ticking sound coming from the left hand side of the car, from the golvebox area but thats it. could it be the ingition fuse? coz it was raining for the last couple of days and maybe it could have possibly shorted somewhere?

should the car atleast start when you jump start even if the battery doesn't hold much charge? coz my battery has died a couple of times on me but this was like a year ago but i kept jumping it.

how long do you wait after the cable is connected? i usually wait about 10 min and than when you try to start accelerate on the car with the engine on

yup
then it will die next time u try start it
coz the battery is not charging
happend to me
though mine was reallllly bad
i had to keep my car revs above 4rpm driving home for 1 hour
or else battery light would flick on
sit at red light..car would pretty much nearly stall
have to rev it up to 4rpm at lights
lol
needless to say
it was biggest pain in ass
and made me look like a hoon

Yes it should I believe... alternator enough to power running car with a bit of the battery left I believe correct me if im wrong.

And yeh my case.. I left car running idle for like 1 hour and uhh yeh indicates that battery still needs to be charged.. wdh.. but then it still starts car? amazing... maybe faulty indicator.
