Hi guys,
I'm in the market for a new car at the moment, and am currently trying to decide between a Civic VTi-R and a Mazda 121.
I'm a hairdresser by trade (no jokes please :o ), so the car will primarily be used for carting hair care products around and driving from Newtown to my client's houses.
I've done a comparison between the two cars, and really can't seperate them from one another. The civic is probably a bit in front at the moment because of the slightly better performance, but then the 121 is better on fuel, so it's back to square one again. I really can't decide!
I really want to be able to look back in 5 years time and say, "I was there man, I was there."
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Quincy

Mazda 323 is more of a Civic competitor I would think,
Mazda 121 & Civic vti-r is in different class.

Greetings Quincy darling.
First off kiss kiss mwa mwa !
I was in a similar situation to this, I needed a car I could get around Paddington, something I could leave the window down and listen to the engine in.
I chose the civic simply for the fact it has both driver and passenger side vanity mirror, helpful when we need a lil touch up on the way to The Albury.

aha
anyway i agree...civic will own the 121...not just in performance but i think the civic would also have better creature comforts as well...
i think you will be happier with the civic in the long term...it will probably last longer too...
in the same breath, the mazda 323 astina is a very healthy competitor against the civic so check them out as well
petrol is important, and unless you have a vtec or boosted civic you will have preeeeeetty good consumption and economy :D hope this helps

Seriously though forget about the 121.....
And why do you seem to be all worried about what other people think about your profession??
God I am a Registered Nurse by profession I was never embarrased by that....... why because you are in a profession dominated by women you are stereotyped as being of a particular orientation?
Back on topic.... get a nice honda! ;)

at big mommas house?
i dunno how u can compare the civic vti-r with the mazda 121
the two cars are totally different
even when u look at the price
i think if you are looking at a car to do what you said u wanna do
maybe you should look into the toyota echo
(i know this is a honda forum)
but the echo is a great little car if you want fuel economy and it doesnt look too bad
howwever dont consider getting the echo new coz ths rrp is too high
2nd hand i think they make a good buy
good luck

MX5 is hairdressers No.1 choice. you should go for that

You're joking right? Only 'slightly' better performance?! Pfft. The VTi-R would kill a 121!!!

Sorry. After that comment I think it is fair to make hairdressing jokes. :)
r u kiddin me? vtir and 121??? a vtir would kill any car in its class... where as the 121..er... i cant think of any good thing from it atm... there is no way u can put those 2 cars together... in a long run ... i would say go for vtir... more reliable... and doesnt drink as bad as u think... as long as u keep the vtec sleepin.... otherwise still dun go for 121...
as long as u keep the vtec sleepin....
i dont think this quote makes sense :D

u might aswell buy yourself a honda. not only honda's keep their value up. they are more reliable and would last longer. as long u dunt crash the car then it should be all alright. considering HONDA PARTS are too darn expensive compared to other makes.

lol...
I dont think that it were all bias, i think were all just knowledgable about hondas and thats why were enthusiests.
I was quoted once by a Honda mechanic that *Hondas are like the ferraris of Japan*.
Ok theyre not FERRARIs but they are quality cars, in both performance, efficiency and design.
Quincy, if thats your real name, in the end it is upto you but I dont think your going to find 1 reason why you should buy the 121 over the ek4 on this forum.
I strongly advise the ek4 =)

i think what he is looking at is the wrong comparison...121 VS EK4? wtf? anyway its ur decision...you have recieved some (v.good) advice...now sit back and think about it before you go and purchase the 121!
Nah, get a 121 mate. You don't deserve an EK4 after that "slightly better performance" remark :p

Civic VTi-R

Engine: 1.6L DOHC VTEC 16 valve 118kW
Weight: ?
Brakes: 4 wheel Anti-Lock Disc Brakes (ABS)

vs
Mazda 121 Metro 'Shades' 1.5 Litre Manual Hatchback
Engine :Four cylinder in-line SOHC 16 valves
Claimed max. power :64 kW at 5500 rpm
Claimed max. torque :128 Nm at 3500 rpm
just on those figures..... power wise.... performance wise.... there is nothing in it.
even IF u meant ....
Civic Vti
Released: 1993-2000
Engine1: '93-94 1.6L SOHC VTEC 16-valve 96kW@6,800rpm
Engine2: '95-00 1.6L SOHC 16-valve 88kW
Code1: D16Y1, (D16Y8-VTi Coupe)
Code2: D16Y5
Weight: ?
Brakes: 4 wheel disc brakes
Features: Power windows + mirrors, drivers airbag, sunroof
Models: 4 door sedan, 3 door hatch or 2 door coupe.
both civic models will out perform the mazda.
i guess u will need to research A LOT more before u make any decisions, because (i mean this with no disrespect) it seems that the information u have is very wrong.
think about how much u want to spend on ur new car. that could be a defining factor of which car u want. in regards to fuel consumption, u will find hondas have very good fuel consumption.
good luck.

The civic VTiR is a great car with an exellent engine that will leave the 121 for dust. Its difficult to compare these cars cause they arnt exactly in the same class, but I would say in the future you would be much happier with a civic than the 121.

We NEVER said the 121 was a bad car. We just said it wouldn't even come close to a VTi-R in terms of performance, reliability and build quality.

Hi
dont listen to anyone
decide how much you want to spend
how you're gonna drive/use the car,
in the end
both cars will get you from a-to-b
:)
Dont waste money on little luxuries! think about the children =)

I sure hope this quote was in reference to Ferraris from recent times..... cause the build quality of them up until roughly 10 years ago was absolutely shocking. This is from a "fit and finish" of the interior perspective.
