Ok well to start off things.. at the moment i have a 2001 BMW z3 (2 seater roadster)
It has straight 6 2.2l inline engine..
Im basically getting sick off all the issues these cars have..
I want a new car.. But i want another convertible.. after having it for 2 years im in love with them!
My options at the moment are:
Earlier model Porsche boxster
Earlier model Honda S2000
Bmw e46 330ci convertible
Honestly at the moment im in love with the s2000s
I mean cmon.. vtec! lol
But the thing i have heard about these cars is that most of the torque is in the higher rev range..
Like unless your going to get past 5.5k revs they are pretty powerless.. In saying that, i dont drive like a grandma.
In terms of modifying.. to get a decent power upgrade and hear the vtec, what are you looking at buying (cams, cai, exhaust)?
any information would be good..
thanks heaps guys! :D
It comes stock with 176 KW N/A fro a 2L motor so unless you go forced induction, cams/exhuast/cai would only yeild minimal power per dollar. It cost $0 to hear vtec induction just take the air filter lid off.

S2000 will feel/be faster than the z3 anyway.

you can do all those above mods but the only down side to the s2000's are the drivetrain n u cant jus rev rev n dump it off the line u do that then there goes ur rear diff imo jus get intake for it its quick enuf as it is intake will make it louder wen u hit vtec and also better air flow

I'd go with either the 330ci or the S2000. If you want instantaneous torque, you can't beat the 330ci.

Test drive one! Rev it out to 9000rpm once the engine is warmed up.

x2 for that, my friends diff blew twice in his s2k my advice if it duz blow once, dont opt for a reconditiond one for the second one!
out of all the cars u pickd i rekon the s2k will be more fun to drive but i like the look of that bmw it looks a lil more comfy ;) nice black with black drop top will be hott!

You can't go past a 330, after driving both, I drooled at the 330 but my wallet says otherwise LOL... Maintenance can be a bit high but the torque it has across the range is good... If you want a high revver, you can't go past the S2K

I guess it depends what you want from the car, the 330ci and s2000, relatively speaking, do the same thing but in very different manners. You have your torque engine vs. revs...You already know how smooth inline 6s are! the s2k engine is so far from that but in the end will be a much faster car on track and more rewarding to drive if that's what you plan on doing.
For a daily car with space, comfort, luxury the 330ci is hard to beat and they are pretty cheap these days too! Then again there's a few s2ks going for under $30k now!!! that's a bargain!

There's a proper way to launch these cars without breaking diffs, dump the clutch from 7k rpm and let the tyres break loose to take the force...

the car will be mainly a weekend car.. I want a car that is fun to drive and looks sex...
Both the 330 convertible and the s2k do that job.. the s2k being more sporty though.. but i love 2 seater convertibles.. they scream young and single to mingle.lol

The S2000 looks better than all 3 of those, and is also faster. The Boxster's interior looks about a million years old, and its also more expensive in every way, for a slower, uglier car. Strike it from your list.
As for the 330 - its not really the same type of car. If you want luxury and depreciation, go for the Beemer.
But then again, you're also asking in an S2000 forum. Not exactly an unbiased bunch, are we? :P

im surprised he hasnt brought up getting a z4 ... i reckon they are pretty nice too... the drive will be alot more smoother as an everyday car than an s2000, they are fairly quick too...

^^ i think if we are talking about prices for used S2000's then bang for buck its a great car compared to the Z4.
Z4 is nice to drive and is more luxruious but i dont think it can be as fun as the S2000.

actually, bang for buck, the 330ci (not convertible) is great value. u can pick up a 2002 model for about $40k, they were about $115k brand new. the same year s2k is about $35k and were $70k new. the maths make sense here

i have had a look on carsales on for 40k it probably wouldnt get you a good condition 330ci. Also would have well over 100,000kms

well seeing as the OP stated that he was looking at the 330ci convertible, then im guessing his budget is well over $40k then. plus there r bargains out there with a lot of cars sitting around on the 2nd hand market

Just bought a 99 s2k, best car i have ever owned. I formerly had a very nicely modded 180sx, but the reliability and everyday performance is so good on the s2k

Just keep an eye on your engine oil. Some have a tendancy to burn oil rather quickly.
