Sup audio fans..

I just installed (thansk cristian) a Sound system into my car

I have 400 watt Pioneer 6x9's in the tray (wht like 80 rms i think around there) running through a 50WX2 Audiobarn amp..

I have set up the EQ to my liking, but i'm just worried for the speakers.

I turned the bass down a bit and the cone still seems to "pump" ****ing hard, im just worried that I will blow the speakers?

It's only running 50 watts off the amp so I should be ok? I presume they are designed to take a hammering from a 250Wx2 amp so 50 watts is nadda.. shouldn't stress the speaker?

Also would i be right to put the bass up a bit more and tweek the low?

Or am i pushing it now LOL

Thanks

whatever you do don't turn up bass boost if your amp has the option.. quickest way to blow even the best quality speakers...

It has a "extra bass" on and off switch, should i just not bother with it?

One thing Learnt real quick in car audio/electrical... If it looks like it's struggling, it generally is. Are you getting any feedback noise? Rattling? Vibrating? Judging by the numbers you should have plenty of safety margin on those things, Pioneer 6X9's are pretty hardie... How many ways are your 6x9's? (2,3,4?)

DSP26 is correct about not cranking the bass boost. You wanna evenly distribute the performance range of your speaker. any sharp extremes will be sending them the quick way to the retirement bin.

I assume by EQ u mean ur head unit, in that case, watch out for the gain level you've set on ur amp, u don't want that too high, keep it "normal"... If you crank the gain on ur amp, u up the chance of causing it 2 produce unpredictable power

They are 3 way 6X9s, and of certain songs i get a iffy vibration sound from certain frequencies of bass.. So i turned it down a tad..

and yes the EQ is on the head, at the moment it's running:
+3 low
-4 mid
+3 high
"bass" setting of +7 out of ten

The bass boost thing is on the amp, its either on or off. I should turn it off and maybe set the head unit to +8 bass setting?

wow bass so high?
i'd put it on like +2 or something
but thats just me.

Having high bass setting both on the head unit and the amp is a tad concerning. It's definitely healthier+safer to tune the bass higher on the head unit and lower on the amp, but the audio quality may be compromised. Give that a try and see if you notice much difference. Another thing you may want to try is drop mid to the lowest point possible on the head unit, and then set low and high to 7 points above that, and try it with both the bass boost on and off... Remember the amp GAIN setting... That is one of the most powerful modifiers in an audio system. That could seriously make or brake your system.

update lolz.

I turned OFF the AMP bass boost and for a half ballsy (no bass really) low you need +8 bass on the headdeck..

So i ended up flicking the AMP bass boost ON and running +2 sub.. so that way i can choose to pump up the bass from the head unit, insted of going to the boot.

+8 with NO bass boost sounds around the same as +2 WITH bass boost, so it's the same amount of bass i presume..

Before i was running +7 bass with the boost ON, so i hope now my speakers last

Yeah ur not gonna get too much bass without a sub. 6x9's are perfect for filling up hollow spaces with sound, thus are awesome in larger cabin cars, and for smaller cars do low-end very well when enclosed in 6x9 enclosures and left in a sectioned off boot. 3 ways will not produce as much bass as a 2 way. You will get more bass from a baby 10" sub than u will from the 6x9's. When I used to work @ JB Hifi, there were 12" Kicker ES's going for about $175 sticker price, 10" subs will go less than that and the power rating should be pretty spot on. Just food for thought. Good luck.

I thank you very much for all the help..

Now my speakers will last longer :D

works VERY WELL in an air tight installation such as a box or custom parcel tray setup that is rock solid and seals your boot... had mine in carpeted 10mm mdf parcel tray.... easily outdid a 15in cervin vega sub i had before...

I imported mine from the UK a few years ago for over $300 shipped... there is now an Aussie seller on eBay that sells them.... these survived +6dB bass boost with gain on the amp and still able to pump mids/highs...

theres a high pass filter on ur amp, switch that on and it will stop the lower frequencies going to ur 6x9, wont get much bass from them then, but it will stop u pushing them to hard, suggest getting a sub or something, would be a good idea

^^^defeats his purpose and the point of 6x9s as an all-in-one

id chuck em out and replace em with a sub. 6x9s arent a replacement for a subs for SUB-BASS. no 6x9's are gonna play the low frequencies as loudly as a sub, especially if theyre installed free-air.

if anything id feed em more mid-bass instead of subbass. what are they HPF'd at?? slope??

HPF?

They are mounted into a parcel tray??

LOl to noob with this shit.

I got a good amount of bass out of them, it'll do :)

And as for those 6x9's, I'd love a set..

Might look into them

Thanks guys :)

hpf = high pass filter. it basically filters out the lower frequencies, and letting only higher frequencies thru.

low pass filter is the opposite: filters the high, lets the low thru

you wouldnt have tweeters play subbass, you wouldnt let your subby play the higher, theyre not designed to. thats why we have filters.

if your feeding your 6x9s the LOW frequencies (say 30-40-50hz) then id say theyll be blown soon. sure them pioneers might state they can play down to 60hz or wateva, but i doubt they play down that low EFFICIENTLY, certainly not as loud as a sub.

it makes em even less efficient when you add in the fact theyre installed free air (no box). think of it as a sub without a box.

do it once & do it right. let a sub play the lows, let the mid-woofers/speakers play the mid-bass/mid-range, let the tweeters play the high.

you DO have 6x9s dont you?? you said it in your 1st post, n pretty much wat everyone else has been talkin about...

but if your happy with it, then thats all that matters
